UNBOXING-It’s that time of year again! We’re unboxing my favorite purchase of the year. There’s something sacred about the arrival of this particular package. For those who know me, you know that pictures are my love language. In fact, they should be the official 6th love language!

To me, a photograph is a way to allow your memories to linger—it’s a way to anchor the feelings and thoughts of a moment and crystallize them into something lasting. It’s a labor of love, but when I hold the finished product, the effort transforms into gratitude.

"Capturing Memories" is my 6th love language—what’s yours? Whether it’s a physical book like this or a simple digital folder, how do you savor the mundane and miraculous parts of your life?

Happy New Year from my family to yours.❤️

Happy Mother’s Day, dear friends and family! I hope your day is exactly what you had envisioned. This is my annual and favorite post of the year to write. First, it’s because I love being a Mom and have the most amazing moms in my life. Secondly, I love this day because years ago, on Mother’s Day, I tasted freedom in learning to tend to my own needs. So, every year, I set the table for a tea party and take photos with my kids (if you saw my last post, you know photos are one of my love languages). The funny thing is this year I was too tired to make tea goodies, so we got In-and-Out and ate it on fancy china! It was perfection! So, to all you Mama’s out there, if you had a great day, that’s fantastic—what did you do? If you didn’t have the day you wanted, here’s your friendly reminder and nudge to do something special for yourself this week.

UNBOXING my favorite purchase of the year! If you know me, you know I love pictures! Pictures are my love language. It’s my form of gratitude—to capture a moment, the feelings, the thoughts, the aesthetic—all frozen in each memory. I collect my pictures from the year and create an annual family yearbook. It’s a labor of love, but worth every minute when I get this final product. What’s your favorite thing? How do you savor it?

WINTER with me: Have you ever felt a deep, unshakeable sense of winter inside? Last year, I discovered a book that gave voice to this profound experience: Wintering by Katherine May. May's words resonated with what was simmering inside--an invitation to "winter." Katherine May has a poetic way of sharing the inevitability, pain, and beauty that comes from wintering. There are times in life that we are called to winter, to turn inward and care for ourselves with gentleness, to hold sacred space for both our joy and sorrow, and simply let it be, practicing the radical compassion that we often do to the people we hold most dear. As an Enneagram 2, caring for myself takes discipline. But, as I’ve learned to winter, I’m learning to tune into my needs to create space, to step back, to listen, and to embrace solitude. Wintering can be a lonely and painful process, but it can also be a fruitful time of tending to your soul with the same care and reverence you have holding a newborn baby. All of us have or will winter—it’s part of life. Whether you're currently in the depths of winter, have weathered past storms, or simply sense one approaching, this book offers a powerful and comforting perspective on a universal human experience. I definitely recommend this book!

A friend recommended this book and it was worth the read! It is ultimately a book on generosity— as the most generous investment is to take the time to get to know someone. In a world where most are eager to speak rather than listen, this book offers insight into taking a step back and listening, empathizing, and seeing. What was most eye-opening to me was recognizing that we often offer understanding through the lens of our own experience. So, a friend loses a job, we scan our own past, and remember a time when we experienced something similar. However, the older I get, the more I realize this method is ineffective in truly knowing someone. What is more effective for me is tabling my own experience and trying to listen to the person’s experience from his/her lens. What was the job loss like for her, especially as she grew up in poverty? How did her life story impact how this life event is experienced? For me, this goes beyond putting myself in her shoes; it involves seeing the world through her lens. This is gold and has dramatically impacted how I see other people. I definitely recommend this book!

Happy Mother’s Day! Ever since I’ve been on FB, I’ve shared about my journey in celebrating Mother’s Day. After years of being disappointed, I decided to give myself the Mother’s Day I wanted! Truth be told, I was a bit of a Momzilla-wishing I would wake up on Mother’s Day with a parade and fireworks! I’m only slightly kidding!😉 Fast forward through disappointment and tears (not because Rob and the kids weren’t wonderful; I just had unreasonable expectations), lots of maturing and gray hair, and here we are—I celebrate myself! I buy my annual flowers (the only time of year I buy myself flowers, not because I don’t like flowers, but truthfully, I get really sad when the flowers die), set up a tea party for my family (is there really anything better than a tea party?) and take family pictures (hoping less complaining will occur because it’s Mother’s Day). It’s a little tiring, I’ll be honest. But, as I celebrate my 20th Mother’s Day, I’m thankful I’ve learned to meet my needs and teach my children to be participants in their own happiness and having their needs met.

So, my friends, if you had a fantastic Mother’s Day, woohoo! What did you do? If you didn’t have a great Mother’s Day, I would love to encourage you to do something for yourself this week. Trust me, it makes all the difference!

26 YEARS! Last month, Rob and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary! As I reflect on our life together, the word that comes to mind is HUMILITY. I posted about this years ago, so admittedly, I’m plagiarizing myself!

I’ve often heard people talk about the secrets to a successful marriage: have fun, laugh a lot, don’t take yourself too seriously, enjoy the simple things, etc. I believe all these principles to be true; but for me, one of my life lessons is HUMILITY. As a woman, I don’t believe this to be a subservient, docile stance, but instead, a powerfully independent posture to forgive and be forgiven, to seek understanding rather than rightness, truth instead of feelings, and empathy rather than fairness . There are seasons where we coast through life, and there are the rockier seasons where the only way for me to ride the tide is to embrace, embody and exude HUMILITY. The only way I can practice humility is with, through, and because of my Faith. I am thankful to God for these 26 years--I am humble before Him and my husband, not in shameful acquiescence, but with pride and dignity to always pursue truth and hope.

Ephesians 2:3b-8, “In humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage, rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross.”

Happy Anniversary to my best friend and husband. I love you more than words can say!

UPDATE: A few months ago, I shared that after completing a 2 year program, I became a Certified Spiritual Director. I am beyond thrilled to offer this new service. Actually, “beyond thrilled” is an understatement; I am ecstatic! One of my directees recently shared a card with me (see pic in the comments) and it immediately brought gratitude for the ways my journey has unfolded. When one of my children became severely ill, spiritual direction became a lifeline. Now, I am humbled and honored to be able to offer this service to others. If you know me, you know that life coaching is in my bones. Well, spiritual direction is in my heart. Frederick Buechner said, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” To learn more about spiritual direction, what it is, and what I offer, please take a look at my updated website:

P. S. If you made it this far, you are probably wondering how this picture relates to this post. Well, it doesn’t! I just wanted to get your attention with my yummy dessert…I do think an argument could be made, however, to desserts fostering a spiritual experience …a taste of heaven one might say! 😉

WHAT?! It’s almost February! If you are wondering how a whole month of a new year slipped by already, you are not alone.

Even though it’s almost February, it’s not too late to plan for a successful 2024.

The beginning of new year allows for the perfect time for a reset. A reset of mindset, a reset for goals, a reset for fun, a reset to be quiet and reconnect with yourself, God, and others. I don’t often overtly plug my services because, frankly, if you need convincing, it may not be the right time. However, if you feel a stirring to either reach your goals or explore your relationship with God, this post is for you.

Viktor Frankl, one of my favorite authors, says, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

Life happens—the good, the bad, and the ugly. We all have the ability to choose our response—choose how to live when things happen within, because of, in spite of, beyond, and outside of our control. Sometimes that space covers seconds and, at times, it encompasses years. Let’s work together to make the most out of that “space.” Growth and freedom, as Frankl states, are possible and available to all of us. Contact me for a complimentary consultation.

REPEAT, REDO, EXTEND, AUGMENT, SUPPLEMENT, etc.—Who wants a do-over of Christmas? For those of you who are glad the holiday has come and gone, feel free to scroll past this post (yes, this would be my husband!). For those of us who already started a countdown for Christmas 2024, this is for YOU! Somehow, despite my fervent attempts to savor each experience, Christmas is behind us. But, what if I told you that we can continue the festivities for another week and a half?! Enter choir and the song, “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Most of us are familiar with the song, but many of us, including me, may have let the true symbolism and meaning slip past us. The Twelve Days of Christmas consists of Christmas Day (Christ’s birth) and lasts 12 days, until January 6th, the day known as Epiphany (the arrival of the 3 wise men). If you are interested in learning more about The Twelve Days of Christmas, take a look at this article: https://www.dynamiccatholic.com/advent/twelve-days-of-christmas.html. As I learn more about these 12 days, the more I want to relish in this Christmas season—to extend the mornings by the fire, to reflect on the meaning of Christ’s birth, to enjoy the way everything sparkles and shimmers (because twinkle lights make everything better), to celebrate family time, to take advantage of more reasons to drink hot cocoa and make cookies…so, if you want to extend the season, join me in celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas (also known as 10 days because it’s already Wednesday)!
