Do NOT try to copy or even come close to Buc-ee’s. 🦫

Buc-ee’s is known for aggressively protecting its trademarks, especially its famous beaver logo.

Born United used a beaver design that Buc-ee’s argued was too similar to its own. A jury agreed, resulting in an $850,000 judgment and an order preventing the company from continuing to use the logo.

Trademark infringement does not require an exact copy. A design that is too similar can still create a major problem.

Buc-ee’s protects its brand, and they are not afraid to take legal action to do it.

The businesses in your own community are often the ones most willing to support you, especially when you already shop, eat, train, or spend time there.

Introduce yourself. Build a genuine relationship. Show them how you can help bring attention to their business.

Your first NIL deal does not have to come from a national brand. A local partnership can be the first step toward building your NIL portfolio, gaining experience working with businesses, and creating opportunities for bigger partnerships down the road.

Great experience being a vendor at the Wildwood Convention Center this past weekend!

I got to meet business owners, learn about their brands, and have some great conversations about trademarks and brand protection.

A lot of business owners are building something valuable without realizing what they need to do to protect it.
