We have the first sauce of the year!

May I present: "Gordo Cooper"

Named after the famous Mercury astronaut, Gordo Cooper is perfect for the last day of summer BBQ's. It's a buffalo style hot sauce that's lighter on the heat and vinegar than most traditional buffalo style sauces. It may not be "the hottest sauce ya ever seen", but it's definitely the tastiest!

Hey! I just pulled my first peppers from the garden today! Patti got my first two jalepeno peppers yesterday, but this weekend is first blood from the hot!

Well folks, the garden is finally planted. I had to shovel some show out of way first, but the 'maters and peppahhs are in the ground. This year, everything was started from seed, and a few on the seedlings came from last years crop. So, we'll see how they do!

May I present: "Operation Crossroads: Baker"

Of all the wonder and horror of nuclear weapons, there's just something beautiful and almost serene about the underwater" Baker" shot. The beauty of the surrounding location (Bikini Atol), the steam cloud, the perfect symmetry of the initial ignition... it was just a beautiful thing. Scary. But somehow, beautiful too.

That's why I decided to stick with my fish theme for "Operation Crossroads: Baker". But, you can overpower fish, or you loose the delicate flavor in the midst of all the chaos.

So I present, my first NOT HOT sauce... ever. It's made with Italian Roaster, Anaheim Chilli, Sweet Romanian, assorted Bell peppers, and just a few Medium Hot Block peppers to allow SOME type of heat. With a beefsteak and yellow pear tomato base, and honey, lemon, and garlic, this sauce is as delicate of a balance as you can get. Not too much of any one thing, but enough flavor to sink the battleship USS Arkansas!

May I present: "Operation Crossroads: Able"

Crossroads was a naval test, which was really just a way for the US Navy to get rid of a bunch of old stuff they had laying around and didn't fell like spending the money on scrapping it. All in all, imagine a bunch of grownup kids with a bathtub full of model boats and a stick of dynamite to play with. Yeah. That's kinda Crossroads!

Able shot was airdropped from a B-29 and detonated above a "task force" of random boats. It all in all was an effective drop! Lots of stuff sunk. Lots of critters got lit up. Lots of fishes started to glow in the dark!

My version of Able is designed to be potent, yet tasty! Two ghost chilies, a load of cayenne and serrano, and Cajun chilli powder makes Able highly versatile for either use as a chilli booster, or as a brush on sauce for lighter meats and fish.

Try it on salmon! Then shut the lights off and see if it glows!

Since Able and Baker were test shots in Bikini Atol against naval targets, I think it's only fair that we center these two shots around FISH! That's right! Let's make all the poor little fishies in the lagoon glow show up on X-ray film!

May I present: "Enola Gay"

This name is the mother of the pilot of the B-29 that dropped the first atomic payload on Hiroshima. The gun type uranium device deployed over Hiroshima produced an 18 kiloton explosion, and well... the rest is history.

Now, seeing as my mother inspired the flavor of this nuclear device, she insisted on it's name!

Cherries. That's what I'm talking about. Cherries. "Enola Gay" is a Cherry/Habanero/Nacho BBQ sauce, with just enough heat to say "why yes, I am an atomic weapons carrier", just enough sweet to say "ohh yeah, I'm edible", but not so much of either one that it destroys the thing it's supposed to deliver. And it's supposed to deliver what exactly? It delivers....
