These deer are so darn cute but Darryl thinks otherwise. When they enter the resort grounds, he races as fast as he can to protect us, often waiting to bark frantically until he gets closer to them. (I think he sounds a lot like Brian from Family Guy when he really gets going.) Many times the deer are far away and bouncing out of the property by the time he gets to their original siting. But he proudly struts back to us knowing he has saved our lives once again.

There was something magical in the air this morning. That crispness that promises fall is coming. The smell of wet earth and grass mingling with the aroma of bruised sage. The lonely and sometimes eerie call of birds.

I just love mornings like this. The clouds hanging heavy over the mountains remind me of camping and the smell of bacon and pancakes wafting from nearby campsites. But now it is the smell of "home" and another day in paradise.

Please meet Easton.

Easton is Chris' grandson and we were lucky enough to have him visit for the 4th time this summer. This young man has grown and matured so much from the first time we met him. His confidence and quick wit were a joy to experience and I wish he wasn't backpacking Europe next summer because we'd hire him in a heartbeat.

Can you imagine? Two teenagers working here next summer? Lincoln would be given a run for his money and I would probably end up in a strait jacket.

Despite the expresssion on Easton's face, he claimed that he really liked the chicken pot pie in a pastry shell he was eating. He ate the whole thing, so he must be telling the truth. Right?! He was super complimentary about everthing he tasted. Might be that he was just trying to stay on my good side.

Anyway, we loved having him around for the short time we got him. I hope he remembers ELR fondly as he moves forward into adult life.

Another humble dessert with a very impressive name:

Kentucky Bourbon Butter Bundt Cake.

This cake is dense with a bourbon butter that gets drizzled into holes poked in the cake while it is still warm. It needs no frosting or fancy decorations. The cake is delicious on its own, but it is complimented nicely by a generous scoop of Wilcoxson's vanilla ice cream. (iykyk!)
