💥post partum recovery and adjusting to life after a baby is NOT A RACE💥
Sleep was scarce last night due to this little buger being up all night with teething pains 😢 poor thing... And while I was making my (third) cup of coffee this morning and just struggling to feel any amount of energy, I was reminded once again, of the roller coaster of parenting.
While I love being a mom, it has brought about challenges in every pillar of my life; social life, emotions/mental health, physical fitness... ect. Just when I think we have a new routine down, the kids reach a new stage of life and we have to re-adjust. As parents, we sacrifice our own needs in order to meet the needs of our children. So why then is it so easy to beat ourselves up when we fail to meet our expectations for ourselves?
For example: any new mother can attest to the precieved pressure around "bouncing back" after having a baby. It's a little ridiculous that anyone would expect a woman to juggle the sleepless nights, wild hormones, healing body, work, raising a new baby, healthy diet, and working out and be able to turn around in no time looking and feeling like she did before her pregnancy. Yet, our society puts undo pressure on us to accomplish just that.
ESPECIALLY with the presence of social media! This pictures I posted are a perfect example of how easy it can be to present a false ideal on social media. Here I am, exhausted, unmotivated, looking and feeling like doodie, but you can't tell that just by looking at these pictures.
If you are a mother or father to children at any stage of life (and especially new parents) this is your reminder that it isn't a race. There is no time limit on finding a routine or reaching your health and fitness goals. Give yourself some grace today and enjoy the beautiful parts of being a parent. The fitness/ health and wellness goals will come in time. Don't obsess over your body shape or reaching those PBs, if you are currently still adjusting to these big changes in your life. There is plenty of time for that later. If your house is a mess or you haven't done your makeup and hair in who-knows-how long, it's OKAY. Don't compare yourself with others (especially on social media). Just remember to breathe, get rest when you can, and enjoy the little moments with your littles while you still can.
