We would like to thank everyone who came to visit the golf course while we were working on renovations.
We weren't able to complete the greens this summer because of the drought. We used all the available water in our ponds and then they went dry.
Efforts to rebuild the greens will continue in the spring of 2025.
Improvements were made to the clubhouse this fall.

If anyone is interested in operating the golf course in the next few years, we are offering a great opportunity.

A $1 per year lease will be considered for anyone who would like to take over the operation of the course. More details can be discussed if you call the clubhouse phone at 724-238-7655

Have a great Winter !!!
Talk to you again in the Spring...

April of 2024
If you have been up Gravel Hill Road passing Ridgeview Golf Course, you may have noticed that there were several trees cut on purpose... and some that were cut due to winter storm damage.
One of those trees fell onto the #9 green, which was repaired during the summer of 2023, only to be 40% destroyed by the downed tree. So... I guess I will be repairing that green again in 2024.

If you missed some of the previous updates, in 2019, the #5 green was totally removed, new sod installed, and was growing very well. Then Covid struck and we lost all workers, the greens couldn't be maintained, and I did what I could to keep the fairways cut low enough to have people come hit golf balls around the property.

2020 began a rebuilding. We reseeded areas and watered them only to find out that the lakes providing the water had grown a bacteria, which caused more issues. With the Covid employment issues, we couldn't find anyone who wanted to work a 36 hour week.

In any case, Ridgeview Golf Course is trying to find 1099 workers (not employees) to perform contract work during the summer of 2024. This will include Grass mowing, Landscaping, Building Repairs, General Contracting, Excavation, and more. If you have a business, or wish to work under 1099 contracts, and can provide services, please call 724-238-7655.

So the groundhog saw his shadow and that means 6 more weeks of winter instead of 42 days. 🤣
To summarize things, Ridgeview Golf Course needs help, in many forms.
First - we need workers. If Ridgeview can reopen, it will, but we need people who are willing to work and continue the renovation process. I am trying to do it by myself, but one person can't do all the work alone.
Second - we need support. We need to know that the community wants the course to reopen.
Third - Funding. Prior to Covid, it cost approximately $150,000 a year just to maintain the course. We might be looking for investors.

So, please message me and let me know your thoughts on where Ridgeview should focus its efforts.

Thanks... and as always, please come up to visit. I'm usually on a tractor somewhere.

Ridgeview was unable to open this year, mostly due to the inability to hire workers for the 2021 season. This also made it impossible for us to continue the renovation process that was scheduled. As fall approaches and the temperatures drop, it is our hope that we can attempt some of the repairs ourselves.
Any new updates will be posted here and on our website once it is back up and running. We lost our hosting service for the website and will be finding a new one soon.
Thank you.

I see that some people have been enjoying a few of the hills at Ridgeview for sled riding. It looks like this weekend might be one of the last opportunities to sled on the hills since next week is showing warmer temperatures and possible rain. Please remember, sledding and other activities are at your own risk, so please be careful. Maybe I will see you out there this weekend.
PS, someone made a jump on hole 4... it looks pretty good.

Depending on what Punxsutawney Phil says next week will determine what direction the golf course will take in the next few months.
Goals for 2021:
Repair Greens 1, 2, and 9.
Tear out Green 3 and 4 and either put down new sod or seed.
Determine why Green 5 died after it had new sod put down in 2019.
Continue to mow all areas of the course as well as treat for all types of weeds and crabgrass and remove several trees.
How do we do all of that?
We will need help. We weren't able to hire anyone in 2020 because the government wanted Covid-19 plans and safeguards. Honestly, if they want that again, then we aren't going to get any work done.
Laborers will be needed to complete the tasks on the list. Rather than hire workers, we are looking to hire landscape contractors to perform the duties by a contract. The golf course will purchase the supplies, provide the equipment, and the fuel.
Interested businesses should call 724-238-7655 and leave a message.
Thanks

What an interesting year.
Next week I will be having surgery for a hernia, most likely from lifting bags of fertilizer all these years.
I made one last push to have holes 1,2,3 ready for people to walk during these nice days. The tees have been cut down and the fairways cut twice. Remember, the greens are tall on purpose. Hopefully once I recover, I will get out there and aerate the greens and cover them with sand and bentgrass seed to germinate before winter comes. This should result in nice fresh grass next spring on holes 1,2,3.
If I get those done, I will do the same process on 4,5,9 so that we could have 6 holes open at the beginning of next year. I could get even more done if I get some labor help.
I am doing my best as a one man show on the golf course and homeschool teacher. Can we please just end this Covid thing and go back to "Normal" normal?

I would like to thank all of the golfers and people that have visited Ridgeview this summer, either to walk the property or to play a few holes of golf on the holes that we have open. It has been great to talk with many of you regarding our future plans at Ridgeview, hence this message.
In about a month, I will be having a surgery performed that will take several months for me to recover from. During that time, it will be increasingly difficult for me to keep up with the mowing of the course. Once I recover, I plan to perform a fall aerification of the greens to prepare them for 2021. Prior to the surgery, I will attempt to have holes 1,2,3 cut in the fairways and tees. The greens are going to be allowed to grow quite tall so that I can apply extra layers of topdressing sand.
I certainly hope that you will all support the course in whatever way you can. Please know, we will be returning to regular play in the future, we just don't know what that will be just yet.
See you soon.

May 1, 2020 - I understand that some restrictions have been lifted regarding the Coronavirus. As much as I would like to open for business, it is just not possible. As many of you are aware, Ridgeview is a family operated business. Due to this, family comes first. That means I am at home with my daughter completing her school work rather than out on the tractor mowing. I will do my best to get as much done as possible. The goal is to get 1,2,3 reopened first. I hope that you will continue to support Ridgeview. Your support will be the only reason it can stay open. Otherwise, the course will be lost forever. Thanks.

I wish I had better news to share today. The weather, Covid-19 restrictions, and time in general have not been in my favor the past few weeks.
I have been making every effort possible to mow fairways and tees so people could come hit a few shots. The greens are awaiting aerification and top dressing, but I can't do either because the Governor (who I am not a fan of) has placed restrictions on work environments and therefore, I can't get people to perform the labor needed to get the course ready for play.
I am only one person, and with schools closed, I am now back in my old role as full time teacher (which I wouldn't pass up time spent with my daughter... even for golf.) This means I can't spend as much time on the course.
I will continue to do my best to hopefully get the course ready for play. I do want to caution everyone though, I will not open the course for regular play until I feel it is ready. I will do my best to get 1,2,3 reopened for walking again as soon as I can. The rest of the course will need to wait.
Thanks
Donnie
