Here's the latest update on the big car season. With help from our sponsor Precision Mechanics and Ryan Walton, we obtained a block. It needs cleaned and inspected, with hopefully no machine work. After that, we will piece together our rotating assembly, cam, lifters, and pushrods. Racing with a tight budget will affect our return. Im thinking best case will be a July return.

The kart isn't going as Id hoped either, Ember is still intimidated so we havent got her to much seat time. Im hoping she will come around soon and at least try 1 race.

Post motor tear down report. Pulled the motor, opened it up. Cam shaft broke into pieces, some lifters broke, some pushrods smashed, 2 pistons wrecked, 1 connecting rod destroyed, and 2 cracks in a cylinder. There are 6 pistons and 7 rods that can likely be salvaged. Not sure if the crankshaft is able to be saved. Heads and valve train appear good. Pretty safe to say we are out for a while, maybe the season.

Well apparently I should have taken the car out for the blessing of the cars at the track tonight. First night out for us, loss of oil pressure. Heard a noise, motor no motor anymore. At some point in the next few weeks, we will get the motor pulled and start looking for what failed. If the motor isn't junk then I'll look at my options and determine if the car will be back on the track. Id say its going to be 3 or 4 weeks at minimum before its back out there. As I pull the motor apart, I'll try and document the rebuild and keep everyone updated. If the motor is scrap, I'm not sure what the plan will be.

🏎️ IMCA Late Models must follow their normal rules with these exceptions:
-Must have an IMCA Late Model License
-Any legally sealed 604 crate engine that was legal at Quincy in 2025 will be allowed in 2026. More info on this in the Drivers Only group.
-Must run the IMCA legal Carb spacer (or none, see rules)
-Siped NLMT-3 tires will be allowed at our first 3 scheduled races (this is the first since we “re-scheduled” last weeks rainout), this is to give our local cars a burn off period for the drivers who do not have any non-siped tires to allow for their new ones to get heat cycled.
-These changes allows UMP cars to compete with us with only a few changes. We appreciate IMCA for helping our drivers with our sanction change this year to allow more cars to race with us. Reach out to us on Facebook with questions.

This is good news for us but an unfortunate event for the track. The move of the MLRA race allows for the track to be ran on and work the track in so we will now be racing next Sunday. Saturday is a practice day for karts so we will have ember out on the track. Come out and watch the karts starting at 11 and ending at 2 and then join us Sunday night for opening night on the big track.

Not only has Sunday night's scheduled season opener been postponed, but the April 26 Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) appearance has been moved to June 7.

Unfortunately, the rain wins this weekend. Im pretty positive we are off the following week for MLRA racing so May 3rd will hopefully be our first race. Come watch the racing next weekend though, bring friends.

Mother Nature Wins Opening Night at Quincy Raceways

Due to a staggering amount of rain already saturating the facility this month (the RainDrop app says over 4.5” in just 2 weeks) and a 70% chance of severe storms with another inch on the way this evening, we are left with no choice but to cancel our first race of the season.

With a necessary 2+ days of drying needed before even considering moving any equipment to the track, Mother Nature has not been pleasant to work with this Spring. It just takes time for things to dry out. More shaping of the track is still at the very top of our To Do list, but things just haven’t gone our way so far this year. We want to prepare the best track surface possible without tearing up the rest of the facility causing even more work for us, and with the already saturated facility that just won’t be possible before Sunday night. The cooler temps predicted for this weekend also will not help dry things out and will not provide comfortable conditions for our opening night.

We are all excited to kick off the season, but unfortunately we’ll have to wait another week. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend, and do what you can to convince another Nature to be nicer to race tracks!

More information about next week’s MLRA event will be posted soon.

I won't be able to attend but I encourage anyone on the fence about dirt track racing to go out and watch the guys dial in their skills and cars. The grandstands are free and you can take your own beverages.

❗️Practice for Thursday April 9th is a GO❗️

There are some puddles in the pits (as always) but the track looks to be in good shape thanks to the sun and wind today. The guys have a lot of work to do tonight now that it’s finally dry enough to get equipment on the track but we are full steam ahead for tomorrow. We look forward to seeing everyone to sling some dirt for the first time in 2026!

-Gates open at 4:30
-Practice roughly 5-8
-All classes welcome (big track only)
-Pit Pricing: Adults $25, 15 and under $15
-Grandstands are free but concessions will not be open, BYOB
-Raceceivers mandatory, timing loop will most likely not be active but bring your transponders just in case.

Saturday’s weather is not looking very promising so make plans to join us tomorrow!

Quick little update on the big car, had to do some transmission work a couple weekends ago. I was able to put fluid in it the day after the car show and give it a little function test. All is good with the car. First race will be April 19th.

We had a wonderful time at the food truck event and race car show. Ember's kart was voted as the best appearing go kart. She was extremely happy and it made all the time spent cutting hearts and wrapping it worth it for me. I would also like to thank Jeff Alexander again for printing names, sponsors, numbers, and barbies for me. Thank you to everyone who put on the event as well. It was a great time.
