⚾️ MORE THAN A GAME | PLAYING FOR BERTO ❤️

This weekend means a little more for the Gunners.

Our team took the field in a memorial baseball tournament honoring Coach Alberto “Berto” Lopez, a Waco-area coach whose life was tragically lost in a car accident.

For Coach Matt, this one is personal.

Long before either of them became coaches, Matt and Berto were just two kids who loved baseball. They grew up together as childhood friends and teammates, playing Little League and select baseball side by side.

Their journey eventually took them to the Midway Little League All-Star team, where they won a State Championship and advanced to the Southern Regionals. That team came within one game—and one run—of earning a trip to the Little League World Series.

Years later, their shared love for the game continued in a different way: through coaching, teaching, and giving the next generation of ballplayers the same kind of memories they were fortunate enough to make together.

Now, Coach Matt has the opportunity to step onto a baseball field again in honor of his childhood friend and former teammate.

This weekend isn’t just another tournament.

It’s a chance to remember a friend, celebrate a coach, and honor a life that made an impact on the baseball community.

For Coach Matt, being able to bring the Gunners to this tournament and play in Berto’s memory means more than wins, losses, or anything that shows up on a scoreboard.

This weekend, we play for Berto. ❤️⚾️

Rest easy, Coach Berto. Your impact on this game—and the people who love it—will carry on.
