The recent revitalization of the Liberal High School football program has us thinking back to the dominant 1990s under legendary coach Gary Cornelsen. While guys like Jerame Tuman and Lamar Chapman (both pictured) went on to standout Division I careers and the NFL, countless others contributed to a program that won nearly 90% of its games and made seven consecutive 5A title games under Cornelsen.

Former Hutchinson Community College head coach Rion Rhoades, former Liberal coach and athletic director Trace Haskell, former K-State running back Carlos Alsup, and former LaCrosse Hays/Hutchinson/Gardner-Edgerton head coach Ryan Cornelsen (name sound familiar?) are just a few the contributors to Liberal's tradition of excellence throughout Cornelsen's tenure.

Watching those Liberal teams must have been something special!
