Race Recap: at with the BMW

In our pursuit to add as many new tracks to our race resumes, we headed to Mid Ohio with American Endurance Racing. To say this track is a blast to drive is an understatement, the corner speeds the could carry was astonishing! We started out Saturday’s race with a quick charge to third position just to be let down via a failed serpentine belt. After a run to the parts store and a repair we continued our race. We may not have gotten a podium, but we had a blast! We went to bed that evening knowing we were going into a day of figuring out racing in the rain. The first thing we learned is not everyone realizes you can’t win the race on the first lap. By turn five we saw three different incidents and ended up getting hit square in the driver‘s rear wheel and spun off the truck. This started a chain reaction of oil leaks caused by a broken dipstick tube at the oil pan. This turned our day more into an HDPE than a race. The team did great trying to keep the car on track while doing repairs in the pouring rain and puddles of oil. The car needs to head home for some easy repairs and prep for the next race, but this won’t be our last time at Mid Ohio!

Race Recap: at with the Omni

This weekend was what endurance racing is all about. After brake failure a few weeks prior at CMP, it was a long push prepping for this race. Unfortunately at the end of Fridays test day the engine was knocking but we swapped in a spare in the parking lot in under 3 hours - and the “new” one sounds great!

Saturday started with a failed alternator and a front wheel bearing replacement. Then we got hit in turn 1 and needed to replace a rear wheel bearing. We went back out on track again when the brand new harmonic balancer came apart leaving only the hub behind. We fixed it, and finished the day 3rd in class.

Sunday was a wet and rainy one, but we all turned clean consistent laps all day which resulted in a 1st in class by several laps, and a 1st overall for class 1 all weekend. Proud of our team.

Race Recap: at with the Aspen and BMW

We headed down with all intentions of running the powered Dodge Aspen and taking it to a podium. After a short stint Saturday morning the ECU in the car decided it no longer wanted to run the water pump or fan and took the engine temp pretty nuclear… lucky for us I had loaded the e90 BMW on the trailer just to threaten the aspen into behaving. We substituted it in as our spare and got the seat time we all wanted. After battling a power steering issue with the BMW we ended up mid pack. By the end of the weekend we got to learn a new track and load two running/ driving cars back on the trailer. Not the weekend I wanted but we had a blast with and can’t wait to give it another shot!

Race Recap: at with the Omni

New tracks are always a fun challenge! Mostly due to car setup we struggled with traction, which caused us to go through front tires fast. CMP is known to be hard on brakes — we went through a set of pads in the first stint (they usually last a day). Thankfully with mandatory 7-minute pit stops we could swap drivers, fuel, brakes, and tires without losing track time.

On the last lap Sunday, Corey went into turn one and found he had no brakes (we later found he wore through the pad, backing plate, and popped a piston out of the caliper). He managed to yeet the car off through the sand traps and avoid the tire wall — keeping damage down and finishing the weekend with a fixable car and two 3rd-place trophies!

A lot of new firsts for us last weekend! We debuted a new car, an e90 328i with an 8hp swap. It was also our first time racing with , our first time racing in the dark, and our first time racing a one day 14 hour race. The e90 performed fantastically first time out, ending 13th overall and the Omni pulled out a 3rd in class finishing 20th overall. It was a great close to our season and we’re already looking forward to next year!

We had a ton of fun racing with for the first time a few weeks ago! The Omni brought home some hardware placing 2nd in class on Saturday, but the Aspen unfortunately broke some hardware having catastrophic engine failure Sunday afternoon. We’ll be back with both cars next year!

Test & tune day leading into our first weekend racing with - glad we took a day to shake down the cars! The Omni is getting a new ball joint (and control arm) while the Aspen is having its new turbo re-attached (again). Way less cars on track than we are used to in Lemons, but everyone has been super cool and they love our cars. Here’s to hoping we can show them what we can do this weekend!

Had a ton of fun running with PHA at their Fall Weatherly Hill Climb last weekend! It was our first time running Hoosier A7’s, and they were quite old, but we still managed a new personal best of 60.38! Hopefully sub 60 next year!
