Seth Knight Named Baseball Coach at Paul Laurence Dunbar
Paul Laurence Dunbar is excited to announce the hiring of Seth Knight as its new Baseball Coach. A proud 1997 PLD graduate, Coach Knight brings 16 years of head coaching experience, having previously led programs at Western Hills, PLD, and Lexington Christian.
The 2025 11th Region Coach of the Year, Knight’s teams have won over 230 games while producing 2010 Mr. Baseball (and future MLB draft pick) J.T. Riddle and sending over 40 players to the collegiate level. In addition to his head coaching success, Knight served as an assistant coach for three KHSAA State Championship teams: PLD in 2003 and 2007, and Lexington Catholic in 2009.
“We think this is a grand slam hire," said PLD Athletic Director Damon Kelley. "Bringing Seth Knight back to lead our baseball program gives us a proven winner on the field and an outstanding leader of young men. Seth is highly respected in the baseball community. Beyond wins and losses, he focuses on developing players into successful leaders, husbands, and fathers. He is exactly the type of coach you want your son to play for and learn from."
"I’m excited to be returning home to Dunbar to lead this program into the future," said Coach Knight. "Dunbar has always been in my blood—from my days as a student-athlete, assistant coach, head coach, and teacher. To be able to return and begin working with our players has me fired up, and I can’t wait to get started!"
PLD baseball players, parents, alumni, and fans are invited to a meet-and-greet with Coach Knight on Monday, August 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the PLD main lobby.
