Night Coyote Season Is Now Open 🌙🐺

Starting today, December 1, hunters may legally use lights, IR, and thermal optics for nighttime coyote hunting in Kentucky.

Before you head out, remember:

🔸 Night hunting with lights/IR/thermals is allowed Dec. 1 – March 31 and May 16 – June 30.
🔸 Lights or night-vision equipment cannot be mounted to or cast from a mechanized vehicle.
🔸 Hunters with a Mobility-Impaired Access Permit or Hunting Methods Exemption Vehicle Permit may hunt from a stationary vehicle, but lights/optics still cannot be connected to the vehicle.
🔸 On public lands after daylight: only bow, crossbow, or shotgun with multiple-projectile shells may be used.
🔸 No night hunting is allowed in counties or areas where a deer or elk firearm/muzzleloader season is open.

Bobcat season is officially open in Kentucky! 🐾
The 2025–26 season runs Nov. 15, 2025 through Feb. 28, 2026.

If you’re heading out, remember:
• A valid hunting license and bobcat permit are required.
• All harvested bobcats must be telechecked.
• Hunter orange must be worn anytime a modern gun or muzzleloader deer season is open — including right now. Stay safe and stay visible.

Anyone out at dawn this week?

We’re in the peak breeding window for whitetail deer across Kentucky — the data shows it’s happening right now in many regions! 🦌📈

Each spring, our deer biologists collect and analyze biological data from road-killed does. By examining fetal development, they can determine the date of conception from the previous fall, allowing us to build this annual map showing the average peak breeding dates across the state.

This work takes effort — so huge shoutout to our staff and biologists for making this valuable information available to Kentucky hunters. 👏

🎣 Reciprocal Agreements Are Back in Place! 🦆

Good news for Kentucky anglers and waterfowl hunters — reciprocal agreements with several neighboring states are officially back in effect!

That means you can once again use your Kentucky resident fishing or hunting license to fish or waterfowl hunt on certain shared border waters.

✅ Fishing agreements include:

-Ohio River
-Mississippi River
-Kentucky Lake
-Dale Hollow Lake
-Big South Fork of the Cumberland River
-Big Sandy & Tug Fork rivers

✅ Waterfowl hunting agreements cover:

-Big Sandy & Tug Fork rivers (WV border)
-The Ohio River (borders with IN and OH)
