Join us for our Back To School schedule starting August 22nd for our CrossFit Kids Program!

We provide a fitness outlet to keep kids active while getting a break from the specific sports that they may specialize in during the school year. CrossFit is a sport in itself for those looking for something new. We incorporate principles of speed, agility, strength, endurance, plyometrics and flexibility through a variety of functional movements including squats, lunges, pulling, pushing, jumping, rowing, biking and running. We will be teaching fundamentals of lifting weights to help with body awareness and explosiveness. Each class will include an aspect of teamwork and creativity to build friendships and hold everyone accountable to be able to transfer these skills to life’s demands as they grow up.

Kids
Ages: 8-14

Schedule:
M, F 330pm
All classes are 1 hour

Price:
$119 monthly

This Memorial workout from OUTAthletics .athletics (formerly OUTWOD) is dedicated to Gilbert Baker, an American artist, LGBTQ rights activist, and creator of the rainbow flag. The 6 minutes in the workout represent the 6 colors of the Pride Flag most widely distributed, even though the original flag has 8.

Baker set to work in 1978 to design the symbol for the gay liberation movement. He wanted it to be beautiful, unique, and to speak for itself as representative of the LGBTQ community. The very first pride flag was comprised of eight colorful stripes representing diversity: hot pink (sexuality), red (life), orange (healing), yellow (sun), green (nature), blue (art), indigo (harmony), and violet (human spirit).

With help from volunteers, Baker filled eight metal trash cans with natural dye and organic cotton in the attic of the Gay Community Center in San Francisco and used his sewing machine to stitch together the two initial flags that flew in the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978.

In the 1970s, Baker participated in drag shows and joined the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a non-profit LGBTQ advocacy group whose members dress as nuns to bring attention to gender and sexual intolerance. An emerging activist and prominent drag performer, Baker joined forces with Harvey Milk. Baker became Milk’s right-hand flag man, utilizing his drag queen costume sewing skills to design and stitch numerous banners protesting the Vietnam War and supporting gay rights. In fact, when Baker’s very first rainbow flags made their debut, Milk stood beneath them.

An artist until the end, just before his death, he created 39 nine-color flags which included “the eight original colors, plus lavender to represent diversity in order to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the first rainbow flag,” stated in his obituary in the New York Times. On March 31, 2017, Baker died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in his New York City home at age 65. His life is celebrated in the documentary, Rainbow Pride (2003) and his original sewing machine used to create the first flag is on display at the LGBT Historical Society in San Francisco.

Introducing a series of Pride Memorial Workouts that we will be honoring for June and Pride Month! 🌈

This memorial workout from OUTAthletics .athletics (formerly OUTWOD) is dedicated to Marsha P. Johnson. As an African-American trans woman, Marsha P. Johnson “has been consistently overlooked both as a participant in the Stonewall uprising and more generally, LGBTQ activism. As the broader gay and le***an movement shifted toward leadership from white cisgender men and women, trans people of color were swept to the outskirts of the movement.”

Despite this, following the events at Stonewall, Johnson and her friend Sylvia Rivera co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) and they became fixtures in the community, especially in their commitment to helping homeless transgender youth. STAR provided services — including shelter (the first was a trailer truck) — to homeless LGBTQ people in New York City, Chicago, California and England for a few years in the early 1970s but eventually disbanded.

Born on August 24, 1945, at the age of 46, Marsha’s body was found floating in the Hudson River off the West Village Piers on July 6, 1992. The police initially ruled her death a su***de despite claims from her friends and others in the community that she was not suicidal. 25 years later, NYC Anti-Violence Project re-opened this investigation.

Come into the gym tomorrow ready to grind through this one with your peers!

“We all have much more in common than we have difference. I would say that about people all over the world. They don't know how much in common that they have.”
-Ernest Gaines

Winter is here guys!

Just a friendly reminder when coming into the gym through out the next few weeks!

Please take off outdoor shoes upon entering the lifting grounds 😆

Or

Bring a towel handy to wipe down residue and salt off your shoes!

Wet shoes bring in more dirt and germs.
Wet shoes also make for slippery lifting platforms! !!

Am I right?

Thank you guys!

Looking forward to seeing everyone conquer their goals this coming year!

Let’s do this 💪🏼

EVENT UPDATE!:

I want to encourage more donations and ticket sales through the day tomorrow. For the 930am workout we are at max capacity safe enough for social distancing for the gym. We are closing workout ticket sales on the eventbrite link. You can still donate via PayPal or Venmo to to participate in the raffle and come hang out. Let me know if you want to workout and if several people do then we can add an 11am heat or you can come to the regular 8am class beforehand. I have had a couple questions about bringing dogs and of course dogs are welcome! Let’s keep them on a leash and outside though please as the workout areas will be busy and potentially dangerous for them. Thank you for the overwhelming response for the charity and can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow! 🐶💪
