As we approach the season of holiday festivities, many of us find ourselves with a couple of pounds more, a couple of workouts less, and fairly displeased come January. While I could preach about moderation, or getting to the gym more to make some attempt offset the holidays, the truth is its damn near impossible for most of us to avoid this.
This is ok! The worst thing you can do is get annoyed by it. I suggest a different approach. Enjoy yourself! Rather than feeding the cycle of loss= happy and gain= frustration, just enjoy within reason. Life's too short to be on a forever diet. Instead adopt the concept of a healthy weight range for yourself. This does two things.
First, it changes your outlook on getting above a certain weight. Accept there are times in the year you may go up 5, even 10 pounds, and thats just fine. Second, come January you are motivated to get back to the lower portion of your range, and feel motivated vs down about being back to a strict regimen.
I encourage making a lot of your training based in activity vs boring repetition. Learn a skill. Indoor rock climbing, raquetball, Boxing (had to plug myself somewhere!) are all a good way to get back where you are happier whilst doing something fun.
Lets face it, after a while, gyms are boring for most of us, but learning a new skill is usually fun!
