The 2023 Leslie Blackhawks Varsity Baseball Team concluded their season with a Homerun Derby on Monday night.

At the end of three rounds, Conner Marciniak (So.) emerged victorious as the Champion, going 3-3 on homeruns in the finals! The cinderella story advanced to the second round by winning a 4 man playoff at the conclusion of the first round.

Occupying the podium with Conner were fellow finalists, runner-up Landon Kemp (Jr.) and third place finisher Henry Bradford (Fr.).

Landon Kemp won the second round with 9 points. Landon had zero homeruns in this competition as a freshman and sophomore, so that's quite the improvement!

Zack "Sugar" Marciniak (Sr.) won the first round with 12 points, and hit the most homeruns in a round.

Defending champion Mason Tow (Sr.) had the two longest homeruns of the day with one hitting the peak of the roof on the equipment barn, and then an absolute moonshot that cleared the baseball field bleachers and landed in the parking lot. As if this wasn't impressive enough, it was dead into a stiff wind.

Seniors Tyler Burley, Jared Peck, and Max Fourman all hit some bombs of their own, as well.

Thank you to the families and friends that showed up to support these young men on that night and a special shoutout to Coach Fro for organizing this, being the bullpen arm, and buying the pizza!

Our boys played their hearts out and left it all on the field in the District Championship Game vs Grass Lake (24-9), finishing as the tournament runner-up. While we didn't get the result we wanted, the fight and grit these young men showed in this game should make this town proud. They gave the tournament favorites all they could handle in a game where we weren't expected to win, and we put ourselves in position to steal one late. That came as no surprise as this team was an underdog all season and never quit. After starting this season 5-11 (0-6 start), they finished the season on a 10-4 hot streak, guaranteeing themselves a winning record (17-16). This combined with a first round district game win were goals they set and accomplished after our rough start to the season. So while they may have lost a game today, they finished their season as winners.

We tip our caps to the Grass Lake Warriors on their District Championship. They are a great team, and they earned that trophy. That entire program and their supporters are class acts. Good luck next week.

To our Leslie Blackhawk Seniors. Thank you for your effort this season. You were a big reason why this team was able to finish the season on a high note. Your resilience this season set the tone for many to come. We appreciate you all, and wish you well as you begin your lives after baseball. We are rooting for you and we know that you will soar.

To our underclassmen. The growth you showed during this season was encouraging. We can't wait to see you all back for the 2023-24 season and let's get ready to work.

To our team parents. We cannot thank you enough for all of your contributions to our team this season. Whether it be posters, team meals or being a great support system, it is greatly appreciated.

To our coaches, especially Coach Fro. Thank you for your time, your effort, and your motivation. Without you leading the way, this season doesn't get turned around. The love you show for your players was never more evident than in the postgame huddle with them after the game tonight. Thank you for caring so much about these young men.

The Hawks brought home a 6-0 first round win over Dansville!

They are moving on to the District Championship game against conference foe Grass Lake at 2:30 pm.
