MID-ATLANTIC MASTERS RACERS!!!
I wanted to be sure everyone had the latest on the upcoming races at Whaleback, Catamount and Gore. There are also some important deadlines on membership that are important to know about.
New England's Whaleback double SL race is a go. If you haven't registered yet and plan to race, you should act quickly.
Catamount and Gore are a go. More details are below.
Membership Deadlines: Remember to count for the overall seasonal and team scoring you must be a paid Mid-Atlantic Member. The deadline to become a member is March 3rd.
Ability Class Race Scoring: To be eligible for ability class scoring on Saturday March 9th, you must be a paid Mid-Atlantic Masters Member. This does not affect the Eastern Regional Championship scoring, ONLY the ability class scoring that we traditionally do at our finals.
Gore Banquet: The deadline for the early bird banquet price is approaching on March 3rd. This banquet is for all racers and their significant others even if you are not a Mid-Atlantic Masters member. We will present the awards for Saturday's Eastern race there as well as our seasonal, ability class and other awards. It's meant to be for everyone. So if you want to join us, don't forget to sign up.
Whatsapp Group Communications: We have two Whatsapp groups. One for General Mid-Atlantic communications that you can post questions to, the other is for Mid-Atlantic Race Day communications (only administrators can post to that). It's worth joining both for real time communication.
Race updates for Catamount and Gore Below
Catamount March 3, 2024
Registration for the March 3rd Catamount Race closes tomorrow Friday March 1st at 11am.
You can find the details on the timing on the Catamount information sheet.
Remember that our start is a bit later as there is another race in the morning that day. You are welcome to ski on the mountain prior to the scheduled festivities. We'll have someone there for earlier registration in case you plan to ski. The published time to close registration will be 10am.
A FIS hard eared helmet is required for this race
Guest passes are available for 20% off
Dunkin' Eastern Regional Championships & Mid-Atlantic Masters Finals at Gore Updates
Things are coming together nicely for the Eastern Regional Championships at Gore.
Gore Info Sheet: You can find the Gore Info sheet at the following link. Remember that times are estimates, so it's worth subscribing to whatsapp groups and checking back at this link. You'll see that the starts are fairly early. It gives us firmer snow getting out there earlier!
Free Skiing Thursday at Gore: Gore was unable to close the race hill for SG Training, but they have offered us a discounted ticket for the day on Thursday. You will purchase your ticket at the window at a discount group rate, but your name must be on the list. To get your name on the list, please sign up in the Thursday training/free ski item under Gore in masters.adminskiracing.com. I will not use this for billing, but I will use it as a base for the list I provide to Gore. If you don't think you will take advantage of the ticket, you should unregister. Adult rates for those over 65 years old - $57 and for those less than 65 yrs old - $44.
Guest Tickets: Typically Gore does not do guest tickets, however, because we have set up the Thursday free ski approach, they will also support the purchase of guest tickets at the group rate. The rate above is a weekday rate. The weekend rate is $78 for less than 65 yrs old, and $61 for 65 or over. To reserve a ticket for your significant other, you need to make your reservation with Carol Tomassetti before registration closes on March 6th at 8am. Your name will be on the list and you will be able to purchase your ticket at the group rate at the window. Racers tickets are included in the race price, this only applies for guests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Thursday SG Techniques and Tactics: John Pierce will be at Gore on Thursday to informally ski, during the morning with anyone who might want to go over some SG technique and tactics. If you are interested, connect with John in the lodge around lift opening time.
Coaching tips to make you fast: John Pierce, Masters and U16-U18 coach, will be joining us for the weekend to help out with the race. He is happy to organize an inspection to help everyone that might need a bit of insight to go faster. He's super knowledgeable, a great skier/coach and we are lucky that he will be joining us.
Friday Awards: Will be held at Becks (in the Yurts - a 2 min drive from the mountain).
Saturday night Banquet: Our banquet will be held at The Bond 1786 this year. They have expanded their parking and they have promised us more bar tenders! The food was fantastic last year and the atmosphere is great. They have limited lodging so you might be able to snag a room. A big thank you to Hannah Knudsen for all her work on this. Signup is open on masters.adminskiracing.com. You can find the banquet over on the right. The banquet is charged when you sign up for it. They will have limited space, so if you plan to go, we suggest you sign up earlier than later, in case we have to cut it off. The banquet is open to all race participants and their significant other.
Lodging Ideas: Here's some lodging ideas for Gore that are included in the New Mountain info pages Connor has created for us. (Thank you Connor)
Help Needed!! If you or your significant other is not racing, we could use help with registration on all three days. It's a fun way to meet people.
Mid-Atlantic Finals Ability Class Scoring: Given our races at Gore will be both the Eastern Regionals and Finals, we will of course be doing the normal age class scoring, but we will also continue the tradition of ability class scoring in for Saturday's GS. Your placement in a given group will be based on your relative handicap across the season. Given the size of the field, we will limit the ability class scoring and prizes to those that are paid Mid-Atlantic Masters members as of the Catamount race on March 3rd. Remember that both races on Friday count for the season scoring and Sunday's SL counts towards next year's overall point scoring.
