I don’t have a tidy story of resilience yet.

One month ago, I had a heart attack.

The strangest part of that sentence is that I was “in perfect health”.
I had none of the traditional risk factors associated with heart disease.

Everything is the same but I feel like a different woman.

I’m still down in it and finding my way. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what my personal life and business life should look and feel like moving forward. I plan to do both for a very long time. 🌹💣🔥

I’m paying close attention to how my body feels around certain people and in certain situations. I’m being careful about who gets access to my mental and emotional energy.

I have been monitoring my heart rate closely. I have spent a lot more time resting and not leaving my house.
I have spent even more time examining what blood tests can’t measure.
Grief
Betrayal
Bereavement
Chronic emotional distress
The cumulative weight of things I tell myself I am “handling.”

❤️ I learned that when a person carries all these things that even when they feel all is well, the nervous system is scanning for danger and the next emotional blow. Emotional heavy lifting, over time, just feels normal but it puts actual strain on the body. In my case, most notably, my heart. ♥️

I understand now that being strong enough to carry something doesn’t necessarily mean I should keep carrying it.

So, I’m in the predicament of deciding what to put down. Life will continue life-ing and I cannot bubble wrap myself from it. In fact, the past couple of weeks I have been dealing with more emotional fallout from a situation that doesn’t seem it will ever offer closure. It feels impossible but I also feel supported, loved and happy.
