A member of the Rec since it opened, Wagler has spent countless hours in the gym developing his game, building relationships and chasing a dream that now feels within reach.

Moments of peace, comfort and connection were at the heart of last week’s Mother’s Day Yoga class. 🧘‍♀️💐

Group X Fitness Instructor Janet guided participants through empowering poses like Warrior I to build confidence and strength, followed by calming, restorative stretches designed to encourage rest and relaxation.

The evening ended with laughter, community and take-home bath bombs — a perfect reminder to continue the self-care long after class ended.

You can join Janet for yoga every Saturday from 9–10 a.m. at the Rec Center in Group X Studio I.

Health care workers: This one's for you. As a special thank you to the health care professionals who keep our community healthy, the Lenexa Rec Center is offering free access to Group X fitness classes for all health care workers May 11–16, 2026.

No advance registration is required. Just arrive early, bring your ID, check in at the front desk, and enjoy a class that fits your schedule and energy level.

Running and education have always been central to Diana C.’s life. She began college as an engineering major but soon realized her passion was elsewhere.

“I didn't like my major but at that point I was kind of stuck in it and I was just unhappy and being in the gym made me happy,” Diana said. “I was like, ‘hey, I might be good at this.’”

Today, Diana works as a personal trainer and Group X fitness instructor at the Lenexa Rec Center, leads our run club (Thursdays at 6 p.m.) and teaches statistics and research methods as a local professor.

After a childhood spent in the pool, Beth F. discovered a new endurance challenge that would shape the next two decades of her life. At 17, she completed her first triathlon — a modest start that sparked a lasting passion.

“I loved going on bike rides with my dad and ran to stay active and fit for swim season,” she said. “My dad recommended that I try a new sport called "triathlons". “I had my first triathlon at Raintree Lake in Missouri in 2002. I used an old competitive swimsuit, an $80 used bike and my running shoes. I did not have all the fancy bells and whistles others had on the course, but I absolutely loved the triathlon race and community — I was hooked.”
