Neck pain during an abdominal curl can occur because you might be leading with the head instead of the ribs.

The movement should begin by drawing the ribs down and allowing the upper chest to soften, not just by yanking your head forward.

Next time you try your abdominal curl, think about letting your ribs melt down toward your pelvis while your upper chest sinks. Let your head follow the movement.
