One last Alumni for our Alumni series! We hope everyone’s excited for our 2026 season to start!

1. What does Norwalk Rugby mean to you?

Norwalk Rugby was a huge part of my high school experience. It gave me some of my favorite memories, some really great friends, and probably way too many bruises 😂. More than anything, it taught me how important teamwork, communication, and having your teammates’ backs really are.

2.     Favorite part of being on the teams

My favorite part was definitely the people. There’s something special about being part of a team where everyone works together and pushes each other to be better. Some of my favorite high school memories came from practices, games, tournaments, and just spending time with my teammates.
3.     Where has rugby taken you after high school?

I’m currently in college pursuing a path in pre-med and studying to become an EMT. While I’m not playing rugby anymore, I think a lot of the skills I learned through rugby—staying calm under pressure, working as a team, communicating, and looking out for the people around me—fit perfectly with what I want to do in healthcare.
4.     Why should someone join Norwalk Rugby?

Because where else can you make some of your best friends, learn how to tackle people legally, and somehow convince yourself that getting muddy on a Monday is a good idea? 😂 Rugby is one of those sports where you don’t have to be the biggest, fastest, or most athletic person to have a place on the team. You’ll get challenged, you’ll probably get a few bruises, but you’ll have a team behind you and make some memories you’ll never forget.

Fresh alumni coming from our Fall 2024 rugby squad!

1) Norwalk rugby is a community and an amazing outlet to grow women’s sports and friendships that you would’ve never thought of. Although I only joined rugby my senior year I met so many amazing people from Norwalk as well as other schools. It opened me to a lot of opportunities and always left me feeling like I could push myself to do more while knowing we were building a great community that wanted to see us succeed.

2) My favorite part of being on the Norwalk rugby team was being able to try something new and knowing you’d fit in. Rugby may seem intimidating but after joining I always knew there was a position for everyone and there was always something new to learn. I was also glad we were able to use our teamwork to give back to others such as fundraising to send our rugby players on some awesome rugby opportunities across the globe!

3) After my season with Norwalk rugby I was able to join Iowa Selects Hawkettes which gave me the opportunity to learn more about rugby and play a whole different game going from 7’s to 15’s. I met a lot of amazing people who I can still call my friends today and we got to travel together to play the game we love. It gave me a great perspective on sisterhood and support and really made me think why I love rugby. Although I don’t play rugby in college I still love that I can always go to a rugby game to cheer on the many people I’m thankful to call my friends through this growing sport.

4) Lastly I think you should join rugby because this sport isn’t your typical high school activity. It teaches you to be determined and how to work with your team and communicate on and off the field. There’s always a welcoming hand at the Norwalk rugby club wether you just showed up to a practice to try it out or you’re having a bad game, I know there’s always going to be someone on the team who will treat you like a friend and be there for you.
