Health tip: 🧋Stay far away from soda, sweetened teas, lemonade, alcohol, and anything considered an 'energy drink' and it will help you not consume empty calories. 🍸🍷🍹🍺🍻🥂🥃🥤🧃
💧Drinking more water is good for you, and has many benefits(see below). 🌊
My personal biggest weakness happens to be coffee with tons of crap added in.... 🧋caramel, cream, pumpkin, specialty syrups---- oh man- makes my mouth water just thinking about it. 🤤
BUT----> when I'm hydrated with water I don't crave it as much. 👐 I think I drink those iced caramel machiatos fast because I'm most likely 'thirsty', and not savoring it like a normal person, sipping the coffee.
So, learn to drink water when you are thirsty, it will cut back on the sugary drink cravings, and amount of non-water beverages you consume overall. 💪😘

Meal prep is the foundation of my fitness. If I don't meal prep, I'm craving specialty coffee, and any restaurant that has a fake healthy option(more to come on that later).
If I take the time to meal prep, even if the timing of meals are off, I tell myself that if I'm not hungry enough to eat what I prepped, I'm not actually hungry- I'm just craving sugars/fats or processed foods.
If you want to take a step in the right direction, without dedicated time for hard core workouts----> meal prep! Get your nutrition dialed in.

Bittersweet memory today, as the storefront of Treads Gym will be ending for Treads Gym. Online training will still be available, and watch for workouts closer to my home:)
It's never too late to be your best! 9 years ago was my last appearance on stage. Since then, I've helped 6 other individuals reach a goal of competing on stage- and sucessfully opened/moved/closed 2 gym locations.
One of my favorite things (fitness) has been put aside, as my kids, shoulder injuries, and doctoral work has taken over.
Doctoral work will be done soon(yay- I will be Dr. CARLA), kids are no longer in diapers, with my youngest starting kindergarten this fall, and my shoulders will never be 100% with bilateral slap tears, arthritis creating a sawlike edge on my humeral head that ortho docs don't want to work on yet, so my progress with lifting may always be limited. But you can't stop me, and won't stop me. So, if you want to be along for the next few months- all positive energy, moral support, and workout partnerships are welcome!!!

Getting close to the new year, when most set new goals and get motivated to start fitness programs. Remember to chose SMART goals, with realistic expectations.
*Find a person who will be your accountability partner- or better yet, pick you up and take you to a fitness class with them.
*Meal prep, and tell yourself that if stick to the healthy food you prep, you will feel good, sleep better, think clearer, and see results faster.
* CELEBRATE small wins! 1 week of reaching goals, 1 month of staying on track, a maintained loss of extra weight. Get your nails done, have a lunch date with a friend, buy the new pants- whatever you will work for and enjoy;);)
*Create good habits. Drink water, eat greens, decrease processed foods, take 8,000-10,000 steps each day, sleep 8 hours, de-stress with exercise.
Those who fail to plan, plan to fail---> start planning for success!

Sherry Valdez did amazing! I don't want to steal her thunder, but I'm so very proud of her! From May to October she worked so hard, trusting the process, and putting in the work. ******I cried as she came on stage- my emotions took over, knowing how bad she wanted it- being able to get her there, and all of it now at this culminating point. ******

Some modifications are happening at Treads Gym! The next few weeks will transition away from the "big rig" into a space where we can strengthen and tone without the feeling of having to do heavy lifts or pull-ups! *Although small pull up bars will be in the space again to connect TRX straps, rings, and strengthening tubing.
With Coach Sherry 1 week away from her first figure competition, and workouts now focusing on overall health, versus heavy lifting- the opportunity to bring in new activities that need more space is exciting!!

Emma is my cousin, I remember how she came to me to prep for boot camp when she planned to go to the Air Force. She really wanted a pull-up.

After her deployment years later she would text and we would have private workouts where I continued to help her learn how to do double unders and handstand pushups. She was SO STRONG!! Not just physically, but we would talk about all of the new challenges she had, beyond lifting weights.
The last holiday workout opportunity she came home I had to work, we missed our chance for a solo workout, but she enjoyed updating me on her competitions and life at our family party that weekend.
Emma will never be forgotten.
I plan to honor her with an event at the gym after the dust settles.
She painted this on the wall at our first location, and it will be forever painted on my soul.
