River's Edge Kayak and Canoe

River's Edge Kayak and Canoe Adventure awaits!

🌊 RIVER’S EDGE DAILY UPDATE 🌊

🚫 WE ARE CLOSED TODAY!

We didn’t have any reservations scheduled, so we’re taking the opportunity to give ourselves a much-needed day off. Sometimes even the River’s Edge crew needs a little time to rest, recharge, and remember what sitting down feels like. 😂

We’ll be back and ready for more river adventures soon! 🛶🌊

🦦 THE OTIS REPORT

Otis was informed that we are closed today and immediately declared himself:

“ACTING DIRECTOR OF REST AND RELAXATION.”

He arrived wearing sunglasses, dragging a tiny lawn chair, and carrying a cooler labeled:

“EMERGENCY SNACKS — MANAGEMENT ONLY.”

When asked what his plans were for the day, he stretched out, folded his paws behind his head, and said:

“I’ll be conducting extensive research on napping.”

For once, management fully supports his decision.

🐟 FISH FACT OF THE DAY

Fish don’t have eyelids, so they can’t close their eyes when they rest. Instead, many fish slow down, hover in place, or hide somewhere safe while staying alert to danger.

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Rest is not quitting. It’s how you gather the strength to keep going.”

Thank you all for understanding, and we’ll see you soon! 💙

🌊 RIVER’S EDGE DAILY UPDATE 🌊

📏 River Level: 5.7 feet

🛶 WE ARE RUNNING EVERYTHING TODAY!
Kayaks, canoes, tubes, rentals, and shuttle trips are all available. Come enjoy a beautiful day on the river with us! 💙

As always, please wear your life jacket, follow all safety instructions, and remember that the river may be moving faster than it appears.

🦦 OTIS’S OFFICIAL REPORT:
After hearing rumors that he deserves a raise, Otis arrived wearing a necktie, carrying a tiny briefcase, and demanding a meeting with management.

His qualifications included:

✅ Chief River Inspector
✅ Weather Correspondent
✅ Safety Supervisor
✅ Fish Inventory Manager
✅ Head of Duck Relations
✅ Unlicensed Construction Foreman

After intense negotiations, Otis accepted a compensation package of three fish per day, unlimited minnows, and full dental coverage.

He is now wandering around the property referring to everyone as “his staff.” 😂🐟

🐟 FISH FACT:
Smallmouth bass can change their color depending on their surroundings, mood, stress level, and even water conditions—sometimes appearing much darker or lighter within minutes! 🎣

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Adventure is worthwhile in itself.”

Come see us and get out on the water! 🌞🌊

🌊🛶 RIVER’S EDGE DAILY UPDATE 🛶🌊

Good morning, river family! ☀️

🌊 River Level: Approximately 6 feet

🛶 Kayaks & Canoes: Running today
🚫 Tubes: Not running today because the river is too high and moving too swiftly for safe tubing.

Safety always comes first, even when Otis strongly disagrees and insists his “emergency tube-testing license” is completely legitimate. 😂

🦦 THE OTIS REPORT:
Otis arrived wearing sunglasses, carrying a clipboard, and announcing that he had been promoted to Director of Sunshine Operations.

He is currently standing beside the tubes with a tiny stop sign, telling everyone:

“NO TUBES TODAY! THE RIVER HAS TOO MUCH ZOOM!”

🎣 FISH FACT OF THE DAY:
Smallmouth bass love rocky areas and moving water. Pound for pound, they’re considered one of the hardest-fighting freshwater fish around!

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Sunshine is the best medicine—and a day on the river is a close second.”

🌊 RIVER’S EDGE DAILY UPDATE 🛶

📏 River Level: Approximately 6 feet as of our latest reading.

☀️ Weather Report: It’s shaping up to be a beautiful afternoon! Mostly sunny skies, temperatures reaching around 76°F, and a clear, comfortable evening ahead.

🛶 Rental & Shuttle Update: Please call or message us before heading over for the most current river and rental conditions. River levels can change quickly, and safety always comes first!

🦦 OTIS’ OFFICIAL RIVER REPORT:
Otis arrived wearing arm floaties, a whistle, and what he claims is a “professionally calibrated river-measuring stick.”

It was a pool noodle.

After several minutes of serious inspection, he announced:

“THE RIVER IS DEFINITELY WET… AND POSSIBLY DEEP.”

Thank you, Otis. Tremendously helpful. 😂

🐟 FISH FACT OF THE DAY:
Smallmouth bass are powerful swimmers and often position themselves near rocks, current breaks, and deeper pools where food naturally drifts toward them.

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Life is better when you’re floating.”

🛟 Tubes: Running
🚐 Shuttles: Departing hourly from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM
🦦 Otis’s Official River Report
Otis showed up wearing a motorcycle helmet and declared himself Head of River Traffic Control.
His only rule:
“No speeding unless you are being chased by a goose.”
The helmet has been returned. Otis has not apologized.
🎣 Fish Fact of the Day
Smallmouth bass can leap completely out of the water while fighting an angler—which is impressive, but also extremely dramatic for a fish.
💙 Quote of the Day
“The river doesn’t ask you to hurry. It simply invites you to come along.”

🌊 RIVER’S EDGE DAILY UPDATE 🌊

Good afternoon, river friends! Due to today’s weather and the possibility of thunderstorms, River’s Edge will not be running any canoe, kayak or tube trips today. ⛈️

The river will still be here tomorrow—and hopefully it will be in a much better mood! Your safety always comes first, so please stay dry, stay safe and keep an eye on our page for tomorrow’s update. 💙

🦦 OTIS’S CHAOTIC RIVER REPORT

Otis arrived this morning wearing a plastic salad bowl as a storm helmet, carrying a tiny umbrella and yelling:

“ABORT THE RIVER! I REPEAT—ABORT THE RIVER!”

After being informed that we cannot actually abort a river, he appointed himself Chief Thunderstorm Negotiator and began waving two paddles at the clouds.

Negotiations have failed. River trips are officially canceled for today. 😂

🐟 KISKI FISH FACT

Fish can often sense changes in air pressure before a storm arrives. These pressure changes may affect how actively they feed and where they position themselves in the water. Apparently, the fish received today’s cancellation notice before Otis did!

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Storms don’t last forever—but the stories they leave behind sometimes do.”

Thank you for understanding! We hope to see everyone back on the river soon. 🛶💙

🌊 RIVER’S EDGE DAILY UPDATE 🌊

Good afternoon, river friends! It’s a gorgeous Sunday on the Kiski, and canoes, kayaks, and tubes are running today! 🛶☀️

🌡️ TODAY’S WEATHER:
Mostly sunny with temperatures around 79–80°F this afternoon, cooling into the comfortable 70s this evening. A beautiful day to trade the couch for a river adventure! 😎

🦦 OTIS’S CHAOTIC RIVER REPORT:
Otis arrived for his inspection wearing swim goggles, one flipper, and a homemade “River Patrol” cape fashioned from a beach towel.

He dramatically tested the current by tossing in a single cheese puff, saluted as it floated downstream, and announced:

“CURRENT CONFIRMED! SNACK HAS SUCCESSFULLY DEPARTED THE PREMISES!”

He is now attempting to issue speeding tickets to minnows and has placed one particularly suspicious-looking stick under investigation. Please do not interfere with official otter business. 🚨🦦

🐟 KISKI FISH FACT OF THE DAY:
Smallmouth bass can change their feeding behavior depending on the weather and water conditions. On bright, sunny days, they often move closer to shaded areas, deeper water, rocks, and underwater structure.

✨ ADVENTURE QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
— Helen Keller

🌊 RIVER’S EDGE DAILY UPDATE 🌊

📏 Kiskiminetas River Level: 4.4 ft

🛶 Canoes, kayaks, tubes and shuttles are ALL RUNNING today!
Good afternoon, River’s Edge adventurers! The river is calm, the boats are ready, and we are running everything today. However, that haze you see over the water is not fog—it is wildfire smoke that has drifted into our area.

⚠️ AIR-QUALITY NOTICE: Pennsylvania is currently under a Code Red Air Quality Alert. Anyone who is sensitive to smoke or poor air quality—including children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with heart or breathing conditions—should seriously consider postponing their trip. Even healthy guests should avoid overexertion, pay attention to how they feel, stay hydrated and head indoors if they experience coughing, throat irritation, dizziness or difficulty breathing. Your health comes first, and the river will still be here for your next adventure. ❤️

🦦 OTIS’S CHAOTIC RIVER REPORT
Otis marched onto the dock this morning wearing swim goggles, a homemade “air-quality helmet” constructed from a bait bucket, and three life jackets because apparently safety has no upper limit.
After staring dramatically across the river, he announced:
“Visibility is suspicious, the air smells smoky, and I have officially grounded all strenuous otter cartwheels!”
He then attempted one “very gentle demonstration cartwheel,” fell directly into the river, resurfaced with a leaf stuck to his forehead and declared the inspection a complete success.
Otis says the boats are ready—but today is a day for easy paddling, plenty of water and absolutely no trying to race a goose.

🐟 FISH FACT OF THE DAY
Many fish respond to poor water conditions by moving toward areas with better oxygen levels, such as flowing water, shaded banks or places where cooler tributaries enter the river. Basically, fish have their own version of saying, “The vibes are questionable—I’m relocating.”

💬 ADVENTURE QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Adventure is worthwhile—but so is knowing when to take care of yourself.”
Come see us at River’s Edge Kayak & Canoe! We’re running all trips today, but please use your best judgment regarding the smoky conditions. Stay hydrated, take it easy and never feel bad about rescheduling when your health is involved.
Stay safe, paddle smart and listen to your lungs! 🌊🛶

🌊 River's Edge Daily Update

🚣 River Conditions: The river is looking great today, and we're running canoes, kayaks, and tubes! Come spend the day on the beautiful Kiskiminetas with us! 🛶☀️

🦦 Otis's Official River Report
"Morning, everybody! I inspected the river by floating downstream on a stick I declared to be 'official River's Edge transportation.' It lasted about six seconds before I ended up in some cattails. I give today's river conditions five fish, two turtles, and one very confused heron out of five stars. Come on down—I promise I'm mostly dry now!"

🐟 Kiski Fish Fact of the Day
The rock bass, a common fish in the Kiskiminetas River, has incredibly sharp eyesight. They can spot insects, crayfish, and even tiny minnows hiding between rocks, making them surprisingly skilled little hunters despite their small size.

🌟 Quote of the Day
"The best stories begin with, 'So we decided to go to the river...'"
💙 See You Soon!

Whether you're floating in a tube, paddling a kayak, gliding in a canoe, or stopping in for bait and tackle, we'd love to see you today!

🌊 River’s Edge Daily Update🌊

📏 Kiskiminetas River Level
The river is currently sitting at 6.2 feet at Vandergrift and continuing to come down.
The water is still higher and faster than normal, so please use extra caution, wear your life jacket, and always respect the power of the river. We are not running shuttles at this water level, but the shop is still open for bait, tackle, snacks, drinks, fishing supplies, and all your other river-day necessities!

🦦 Otis’s Chaotic River Report

Good morning, river friends!

Otis arrived for work today wearing a tiny homemade captain’s hat, carrying a clipboard, and loudly announcing that he was now officially in charge of “River Lowering Operations.”

His brilliant plan involved standing at the edge of the dock and repeatedly yelling:

“DOWN, RIVER! DOWN!”

When that didn’t work, he attempted to remove water using a child-sized sand bucket.

After seventeen minutes, three spilled buckets, one accidental backward somersault, and a heated disagreement with a floating stick, Otis reported that the river had successfully dropped by “at least four otter whiskers.”

Harold the Heron checked the gauge, stared at Otis for a long moment, and wrote:

“River lowering naturally. Otter taking full credit.”

🐟 Cute Kiskiminetas Fish Fact of the Day

Baby smallmouth bass often stay together in tiny schools after leaving their nest. They hover close to shallow cover and dart around as one little group, almost like an underwater preschool trying very hard not to lose its teacher. 🥹🐟

🌄 Adventure Quote of the Day

“Some adventures begin with a paddle. Others begin by patiently waiting for the river to calm down.”»

💚 Outro

Thank you for checking in with all of us at River's Edge Kayak and Canoe !

The river may be a little too enthusiastic today, but there’s still plenty to explore inside the shop. Stop in, say hello, grab some bait and supplies, and help us remind Otis that yelling at the river is not an approved water-management technique.

Stay safe, stay adventurous, and we’ll keep watching that river! 🌊🦦
