Happy Sunday. 😊

It is April 10th and it FINALLY feels like spring!!!! Hallelujah!!!!

Anyway…

I haven’t posted much on here lately. Why?

Because I am content.

I could probably be doing a lot more to let people know about us, but there is something very satisfying about letting others speak on our behalf.

Sure, word of mouth is the slower way to grow, but I don’t really know that I want to grow.

Smaller and more personal. It just feels better. It just feels right.

Maybe someday I will get more ambitious - but I kinda doubt it.

I’m very happy with how things are.

Is it perfect? No…but it is a LOT better.

Thank you Nitro!!! You could have taken the winter off. Instead you chose to spend it with us.

Your hard work is starting to pay off!!!

Now…let’s hope that we can get outside SOON!!!!

Thank you -C3’s Designs and More- for the kick ass mugs!!!!!

I have left a mug in almost every ball park that I have been in - so I’m going to have to either staple it to myself or put a tile in it.

I am NOT losing this!!!! (Who am I kidding? I’ll probably have to order another one - or three)

No. I’ve got this. I will not misplace this!!!!

Sometimes horsing around turns out to be productive…Yeah…try to lunge after that change up now. Lol.

To excel at ANYTHING will require several moments in your life where you must choose what you HAVE to do over what you WANT to do.

Nothing worth having comes without sacrifice.

New season. New logo. Thank you Tera Meyer!!!!

We are gonna be busy this year!!!

Well, maybe busy isn’t an accurate description.

Hmm…how about…

We get to act like kids more often this year.

Hooray!!!!!

A big thank you to all that have brought joy to the lives of two, big, d***y kids!!!

Ok…Bryan isn’t d***y. That’s just me. 😊

Kids…let’s talk about trying to be perfect and living/dying with every play.

Let’s talk about those players that put WAY too much pressure on themselves, creating a lot of stress where there shouldn’t be any.

You know who you are…

So…I have to ask…have you ever watched your coaches? I mean REALLY watched your coaches.

If you do, then you should know that we are far from perfect.

We don’t always hit the ball square during infield/outfield.

Our throws aren’t always on target.

We send runners when we shouldn’t.

We don’t send runners when we should.

We stick with pitchers too long or not long enough.

We coaches fail all the time, but we don’t obsess over it. We keep coaching.

We learn from our mistakes and keep moving forward…

There’s no time for any of us to get emotional. Coaches have to keep coaching. Players have to keep playing. Our team is depending on us.

Kids…be realistic…

Accept the fact that sometimes you will fail - and then learn how to move on from that failure. Because it is how you handle failure that will define you both as a player and as a person.

My advice? Don’t obsess or overthink. Keep it simple.

1. Play hard
2. Play smart
3. Have fun.

That’s it. After all, softball/baseball is a GAME, not life or death.

Enjoy the game!!!!

It won’t hurt you to laugh occasionally. 😊

Stay humble.…keep learning.

It’s a message that’s not just for players.

Every off season we evaluate the past year and look to learn something new that we can pass on to our players.

Two years ago I got the privilege of meeting Tracy Bunge one on one. For those that don’t know, Tracy is a former D1 coach who is now giving lessons at the youth level - and she is outstanding!!!

Anyway…it was a great experience. Not only did I learn more about the fundamentals of hitting, but I also learned the value of getting a message across in as few words as possible, and in a way that a player could easily visualize what was being explained to her.

I can’t say enough good things about what I learned from Tracy!!!!

This year I went to a skills camp that had coaches from six different colleges. My plan was to watch what drills they ran and how they got their message across to the players.

To my great satisfaction, I learned that how we have been teaching is right on track!!!!

But that’s not saying that I didn’t learn anything.…There is always something to learn, whether it be someone’s philosophical approach to certain aspects of the game or variations on drills that we have ran before.

Stay humble…Learn!!!!

What really helped me evaluate how we coach is that two of our players were at the camp - and they did very well!!!!

That’s the shot in the arm that I needed!!!

I can’t wait to fire up the new season!!!
