I just wanted to take a moment to thank Tom Meyer for all of his countless hours working on the Lecompton ballfield and bringing it back to life. It is a facility we can all be very proud of and what a tremendous upgrade and improvement has been made. Thanks for the many years of effort to make all of this happen. You deserve to be recognized for all thar you have done. Thank you so much Tom. You are truly an inspiration to the Lecompton Community.

The bases are put up, the water is turned off, and the leaves are raked.

We will probably have to rake again, but this pretty much ends another season at the ballfield.

BIG thanks goes out to a few of our Building Champions friends for all of their hard work today. They did in an hour and a half what it would have taken Karla and I most of the weekend to do.

Thank you Rockholds!!! Thank you Big Ben!!!

Today was a great day!!! We finished up the last of this seasons projects and got a section of outfield fence put up.

Thank you Connor and Mendel fencing!!!!

And…I am so sorry…I forgot to ask the name of the young lady working with him. Thank you as well!!!!

Details are in the pics.

Todays post is brought to you by:

Sanford Remodel. I speak from personal experience, Terry Sanford is a great guy that does great work!!!

And…

West Ridge Wash and L**e.

Get it done quick. Get it done right!!!

(Note: I know I’m forgetting some people when it comes to thanks and recognition. I should have made a list 🙄. If anyone happens to know who I’ve forgotten please let me know!)

Odds and Ends…

1. I REALLY wanted to be done with my infield projects - but I need rain, lots of rain, to pack down the dirt before I can start digging. So the last of the bases and the pitching rubber are still on the waiting list.

Frustrating.

2. However, there is some good news. Thank you Angela Juarez for the leaf blower!!!!! My least favorite activity at the field, by far and away, is raking leaves. So at the moment I’m like a kid at Christmas and probably having more fun then I should be having. 😊

What can I say? I’m a simple creature.

3. I realized this summer that I will have to replace the outfield fence a section at a time because I will never have the funds to do it all at once. So before fall is out I will empty this year’s funds by getting a 65ft section replaced. Only 385 ft to go…

Eh, the rest is a concern for next year.

4. Thanks to the treeline, the banners in center and right field have held up fairly well.

Left field on the other hand. The high winds have done a number in a few of them.

I may have to switch banners around next spring and ask if people want to donate for a new one.

Also…a job for next year.

It’s been a great year and a lot of progress has been made. At some point I will have to sit down and plan out next season.

But it can wait.

Progress has been frustratingly slow these past few weeks.

We need rain, lots of rain, so I can finally start digging up the last of the bases and get the pitching rubber reset.

Why? Because if I dig now the ground will loosen and I will end up with sand beach volleyball pits in sections of the infield.

If money were no object I would be hosing the infield down after every drag - but we are on a budget and I don’t feel that using our donations to pay the water bill is the biggest bang for our buck.

So…I will wait for a good rain or until the the fall season ends to start digging up the infield.

In the meantime I have my fox patrol to keep me busy. I did in fact confirm that I have fox (foxes? Foxen? What is the plural for fox?) digging, playing, and eating on the infield.

I never thought my infield work would include a missing base plug search, turd and carcass patrol…it’s kinda gross.

Such is life when you have a ballfield next to a river.

But I’m not complaining - LIFE IS GOOD!!!

As we head into fall ball season, we want to highlight two more of our sponsors.

Contact Mount Hope Garage Doors for all of your garage door needs.

And, all are welcome at The Valley Church. Check them out if you are looking for a new church home.

This past weekend, the A-Team Aces 12u softball team took the field for a free throwing session. Hope this great group of kids had as much fun learning as we did teaching them

It’s that time of year again…

Every fall things scurry out of the woods to make use of the infield.

The walnut husks in the dugouts are a no brainer (and partially my own fault) - but I still haven’t figured out what animals are roaming the infield.

I strongly suspect, given how numerous they are in this area, that it’s a fox or, is it a pack of fox, or is it foxes?

I just looked it up. It’s a skulk of foxes. Hmm…seems fitting.

Anyway, whomever the animals that have set up their weekly meetings at the ball field are, they are digging up and chewing the crap out of my base plugs. Even worse they are leaving the leftovers from their hunts on the field.

Eew…

Oh well. It’s just part of living close to the river. I’ll be sure to keep my shovel on the ready.

Dragging crop circles in the infield. It actually looks really good.
