9 years ago I bought my first yoga studio.
Here's what I've done since then.
✨ I taught more than 9,401 yoga classes.
✨ I brought a nearly bankrupt business back from the brink and turned it into a flourishing community with hundreds of members.
✨ I trained and mentored more than 72 yoga teachers.
✨ I completed two masters degrees and launched a thriving practice as a Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist.
✨ I held onto my sanity, barely, faintly, as a business owner of a brick and mortar storefront where people actually paid to breathe on each other during the Covid shut down nightmare.
✨ I presented new research at two Yoga Medicine Innovation Global Conferences and assisted in-person at two YM Teacher Training modules.
✨ I moved houses three times and lived in two different states.
✨ I endured two horrendous pregnancies, healed from two traumatic births and mothered two very gorgeous children.
✨ I said goodbye to my best fur-friend, RussellClive.
✨ I climbed Grand Teton and summited Mt. Whitney with my Ironman.
✨ I broke more than a few traffic laws, on more than a few occasions, driving my daughter and/or husband to the ER.
✨ I opened a new yoga studio across town, completely rebranded my business, closed that studio, and then opened my private practice in a new state.
✨ I spun a few babies and helped move a few placentas and humbly cradled a few of the most precious newborns.
✨ I celebrated chemo bell rings and remission pet scans and NEofD's more times than I can count and held hands with clients anxiously waiting for biopsy results more times than I want to count.
✨ I mourned alongside the families of my clients, and grieved alongside my clients as they, themselves, mourned. I attended a lot of funerals.
✨ I helped hundreds of clients move from pain and overwhelm to steadiness and strength through Yoga Therapeutics.
✨ I launched an incredible online platform, despite knowing very little about the online world, both my naïveté and immeasurable trust in the goodness of people reaffirmed through my Restored + Resilient Membership.
✨ I survived (barely) being a kindergarten Room Parent.
✨ I complained too much.
✨ I cried, a lot.
✨ I made mistakes: I undercharged, overcharged, or not even charged. I left money on the table due to unreasonable reasons (like morals and ethics and grand ideals about not selling out) and then immensely regretted those decisions on the eve of the next rent step.
✨ I offended dozens of students when I fired their favorite teacher or cancelled their favorite class.
✨ I flirted heavily with burnout.
✨ I wrote zero books and moved to the mountains zero times, despite the assertion that my life's goal is to move to the mountains and write books.
✨ Through all of this, here is what I learned:
There is always, always time and space to let my mind lie down and let the wisdom of my heart take over. 💕
And the wisdom of my heart says, gently, insistently: "You are doing your best and it is always enough." 💕
This might not always feel true, and it might seem countercultural to everything you've ever been taught.
But the wisdom of your heart rings insistently and genuinely from your very first to your very last breath.
The practice of yoga is, first and foremost, a practice of the mind. 🧠
It is a practice of directing your thoughts inward toward clarity and inspiration and intuition so that your mind can rest in the source of energy that unites all beings.
And because of this, it is also a practice of the heart. 💕
Yoga absolutely cannot stop the merry-go-round that is living this life, but with its practices of mindfulness, exceeding gentleness, and wise acceptance, we just might take one step off the merry-go-round, knowing that we are loved through it all. 💕
You don't need to reach out to me; instead, reach out to someone in your sphere who needs to hear this.
Tell them in your own words, from your own heart, with deep assuredness: "You are loved, you are loved, you are loved. You are doing the best you can and it is always enough."✨
We got this,
-lisa
P.S. I'd love for you join my Restored + Resilient Membership, a place where you can learn to lean into the wisdom of your heart through Yoga Therapeutics. Your first month is free. 🙌
