🌲 A Note from Lonnie: Choosing Your Child’s Next Summer Home
To our friends in the Camp Kupugani community, Join us tonight's Zoom Meeting 4/13/26 8pm

For over 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of watching children transform under the canopy of the Northwoods. During much of that time, Jeff and I have called Kevin and Natasha friends. We’ve always admired the heart of Camp Kupugani—its commitment to empathy, identity, and community.
As you look for a new summer home, I know the weight of that decision. You aren't just looking for "childcare" or "activities"; you are looking for a place that will protect your child's spirit while helping them grow.
Why Swift Nature Camp (SNC) is the Right Fit:
After three decades in camping, here is my advice on what to look for, and how we meet those needs at SNC:
Look for a Culture of Kindness: In 30 years, I’ve learned that children only take risks when they feel safe. At SNC, we are intentionally non-competitive. Whether a child is trying archery for the first time or performing in a skit, the goal isn't to be "the best"—it’s to be their best, most authentic self.
The Power of Small: I’ve stayed committed to keeping SNC small. Like Kupugani, we believe every child should be known by name, not just by cabin number. With a small group, we can offer the individual attention that shy or nervous campers need to thrive.
A "Bruises, Not Scars" Philosophy: We believe in "healthy challenges." We want kids to get a little dirty, try things that make them nervous, and occasionally fail—but in a way that builds resilience (the bruise) rather than fear (the scar).
Real Connection (No Screens!): We are passionate about the "Nature" in our name. Unplugging isn't just about taking away phones; it’s about replacing them with the sound of loons, the sight of bald eagles, and the warmth of a real campfire conversation.
Director Involvement: After 30 years, I’m not just in the office. Jeff and I are in the thick of it—leading songs, helping with the petting zoo, and listening to campers. When you call us, you talk to the people who are actually on the ground with your kids.
We know we can never replace the specific magic of Kupugani, but we would be honored to carry that torch forward for your family. Our goal is to provide a soft landing and a new horizon for your campers.
PS-We even have a "camp motorcoach" from the Chicagoland area (Schaumburg/Bolingbrook) to make the 6-hour drive easier for Kupugani families!
