season 2026 is officially in the books and as the Golddigger bus rolls its wheels along I-90 to bring us home, we have time to reflect.

This year brought us a batch of young athletes as most of our veteran athletes have graduated. While we had a great crop of Seniors: the ones that stick by us all 4, sometimes 5 years, we are grateful to have. As with all teams, growing, learning, failing, and succeeding ebbs and flows and the coaches float with every bit of it.

We end our year saying goodbye to Coach Althoff as he is giving an opportunity to another throws coach to be a part of the culture and team we call . The Lead-Deadwood Coaching staff embraces longevity, commitment to personal (and team) success, and looks forward to a trip to the State Meet year after year where we do our best to represent West River and the Black Hills Conference.

= Combined over 40 years of experience, state champions, placewinners, and qualified athletes thru the years, coaching clinics & workshops for 12 years running, 4 years of World Records Camps with renowned Olympians, and a shared belief in improvement for the coaches and athletes.
Bowen: 8 years as ATC keeping us healthy, well, and ready for competition.

will host Open Track on Mountain Top this summer: most likely Wednesday and Monday evenings at 6:30pm. It is open to athletes that want to work with us for 20 minutes or 2 hours: Running, jumping, throwing, vaulting, hurdling, blocks, mechanics, and technique. Basics and advanced. We will meet you where you are in skill.

See you in 2027.

Day 2 SDHSAA 2026 State Track Results for


Coming from the Golddigger Camp:

Boys Triple Jump: Fighting some injuries, Carl jumped 35' 11.75". With a PR of 40'7", we know we'll see him back next year, stronger & with a year of experience under his belt.

Girls 4x200: Mila, Eme, Ivy, Atty: Running 4:51.11, this wasn't their fastest, but they did what they could.

Boys 4x200: Carl, Finn, Blake, & Peyton: Also fighting some injuries throughout the team, they didn't run their fastest for the season with 1:35.51.

300m Hurdles: Atty ran to compete and crossed the finish line with a 48.42.

200m Dash: Blake sprinted to the finish line with a 23.11, placing 11th. He also ran the 200s on the wrong side, as did all the heats, for the first time in SD state track history. Still not sure why. Maybe to avoid moving blocks & keeping racers in the staging area out of the rain? That was our guess, anyway.

The Diggers did end on a high note with Pole Vault.
Coming off of a year with three knee surgeries, only having 2 meets, and a limited number of practices at the end of the season, Zade qualified in the top 7, placing 4th with a personal best of 12'9".

We ended the evening with some team bonding, playing black light mini-golf and celebrating Coach Malde's birthday with cake & a happy birthday song.

Day 1 SDHSAA 2026 State Track Results for

High Jump: Blake cleared 6'0" and was just off the podium.

100m Hurdles: Atty ran 16.33, placing 16th

100m Dash: Eme ran a 12.75, giving herself a PR and placing 10th, just missing finals.

Girls 4x100: Mila, Eme, Ivy, Atty: a new PR for the girls at 51.47, they came in 11th, also just missing finals.

Boys 4x100: Carl, Blake, Finn, Peyton: at 45.66, they did not PR, but ran a good race.

Yesterday's Mountain West Track Meet results have been added to the season competitive stats. When you click on the link, you can scroll through the events via the tabs on the bottom (or top -- depending upon iPhone/Android). All athletes are included that have competed since the start of their HS career, including middle-schoolers competing at the HS level.

Blue-colored cells indicate a personal best after a season mark has been made. Apricot-colored cells indicate a school record.
