From Summer Crew to Industry Leaders
As I am in my 25th year here at the Le Sueur Country Club and welcome our summer staff back, I am reminded of two former employees whose careers exemplify the professional opportunities and long-term growth that can originate from a summer position in golf course management.
Lucas Grieves joined our team in 2006, followed by Tanner Walsh in 2013. From the beginning, both demonstrated exceptional work ethic, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to the industry.
Today, Lucas serves as Golf Course Superintendent at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minnesota, one of the regionโs premier golf destinations. Tanner is the Superintendent at The Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa, a distinguished private club that is hosting the annual PGA Champions Tour Principal Charity Classic this week.
It has been particularly gratifying to follow their professional journeys and witness their progression from summer crew members to respected leaders in the golf course management profession. Their accomplishments reflect years of dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Congratulations to Lucas and Tanner on their outstanding achievements, and best wishes to Tanner and the entire Wakonda team as they host this weeks prestigious event.
Their stories represent just two examples among many. One of the most rewarding aspects of the past 40-plus years in the golf industry has been watching former employees develop their talents, gain confidence, and achieve meaningful success in their chosen professions.
As this summerโs crew begins its season, Lucas and Tanner serve as excellent examples of how a summer position can provide the foundation for a successful and impactful career.
Have a great summer!
