What a sad day for our beloved US Coast Guard Academy Boxing Team....the program has suffered with Coach Tom Barile’s move to Nashville, and safety became too big of a concern for the administration to allow the program to continue without him. We are hopeful that with some time, and a plan in place for Tom to be involved in the program from afar, that the program will be reinstated next year. Sadly, this year the Coast Guard Academy will be the only of the Service Academies to not have a boxing program. So disappointing.

This little gym, with a volunteer coach and boxing being just a "club", turned out FIVE Collegiate National Champions, THIRTY All-Americans, FOUR Golden Glove Champs and TWO Olympic Team Trial Qualifiers. The team placed as high as 3rd in the country, was on National TV several times. Both Tom and Jessica are on the Executive Committee of the National Collegiate Boxing Association - NCBA. Tom won Coach of the Year in his last year. For a small program, we were kinda a big deal 😉

All of you who have boxed for CG in the Western New England and New England Golden Gloves or up at one of the great events at the Log Cabin, know what a huge supporter of boxing (and the military) Dean Fay is....great to see this terrific feature on him and his boxing program up in Springfield, aimed at keeping kids off the streets.

Officer Dean has dedicated himself to opening and running a gym that all kids can go to to learn how to box. Steve Harvey wanted to surprise them with Jermall and Jermell Charlo- the first set of twins to hold boxing world titles in the same division!
