Lawrence Sports Alliance Do you know that only 12-15% of Lawrence High School students participate in sports?

To enhance the capacity and impact of youth-serving sports organizations in Lawrence through an equitable, interconnected support system that provides every child with the necessary physical, emotional, and social skills to succeed in life. In an effort to change those statistics, Beyond Soccer, Everyone's A Player and Lawrence High School Athletic Department partnered up to develop the City's fir

st, multi-sport leadership academy (Lawrence Sports Leadership Academy, or LSLA). This effort will introduce at least 250middle and high school youth --in 2017-- to a meaningful and affordable sports camp in their own backyard. LSLA offers 5 different sports, awesome fitness instruction, nutrition education, leadership development and team-building components. The Academy will also provide 18 high school juniors, nominated by their coaches for demonstrated leadership qualities, with camp stipends in exchange for their 10 month Ambassador service, spreading crucial messages to younger kids about the importance of sports, fitness and good health.

Somewhere right now, a kid is watching football's biggest stage and dreaming. That feeling — of belonging to something, of believing you could be part of it — is what every kid deserves. We show up every day to make sure they get it.

We are proud to be part of Coalitions for Sport Equity a nationwide network making sure every kid gets to play. Because play is where belonging begins. And every kid deserves to belong.

Here in Lawrence, what started as a grassroots movement over a decade ago to increase young people's access to sports, has become an interconnected, close-knit group of 30+ organizations built on trust. That trust has broken down silos, expanded partnerships, and strengthened a shared commitment to the health and well-being of young people.

With the support of CESq and so many others with shared goals, we've grown into a unified alliance where every member belongs, genuinely cares about each other, and together lifts up the entire sports ecosystem to create opportunities for meaningful impact.
"Todos juntos en esto. All together in this."

Last week, Elecia Miller of the Mayor's Health Task Force of Lawrence represented the City and the Lawrence Sports Alliance (LSA) on the "Rise Up MASS" panel at Aspen Institute Sports & Society Project Play Summit, alongside 875 youth sports advocates, nonprofit leaders, and others. She brought great insight and energy to the panel discussion.

Why are we rising? Collaboration.

Elecia shared how powerful it can be when organizations start building together. She highlighted opportunities created through partnerships between LSA, its member sports groups, the City's Healthy Active Living Workgroup, and the Lawrence Recreation Department. For this panel, she spotlighted efforts making a real difference on the ground, including "Champion Her Game," that's improving sports access and equity for girls across Lawrence, and how Mass in Motion through Safe Routes to Schools is helping kids not only get to school safely, but also reach parks, fields, and recreational spaces in their neighborhoods!

One of our favorite takeaways: when the right people are at the table, and we align our skills with our shared passions, we can accomplish so much more together. And yes, she had a room of 100+ people laughing while delivering that message, too. 😄

Thank you, Elecia, for representing the City and LSA so well! 💙⚽🏀🏈⚾🎾🏐🏉🎱🏓🏸🥊🏆

This week, we're spotlighting Sueños Basketball, an organization that proves sports can open real doors for Lawrence youth.

They're invested in academic growth, developing leaders, and showing up for students in meaningful ways. Their recent graduation celebration honoring 8th grade and high school graduates is a perfect example of the work they put into developing the whole person, not just the athlete. 🎓

Grateful to have Sueños as part of the sports movement in Lawrence. Check out their post below and show them some love! 👇

Look what happens when people come together for youth and teens 💙

An incredible amount of softball gear. Smiles all around and student athletes ready to take the field with confidence.

Moments like this are a reminder that access matters. Equipment matters. But just as important? The collaboration behind it. When community partners step up and work together, real impact happens.

Shoutout to everyone involved!! Everyone's A Player Debbie's Treasure Chest, MellisaMarrama MagicBarn @ 🏀🥎🏐⚾️⚽️🎾🏈🏉🏑🏒🥊🥋🎽💙

We’re feeling motivated — and here’s why!

For this , we’re looking back at last week’s virtual learning session led by Sam from Sports It was part of the Lawrence Sports Alliance’s fall convening, where a dozen plus members joined to learn how to apply for equipment support and better understand the opportunities available to strengthen their programs.

Here’s a snapshot from the Zoom session, where Sam walked everyone through the process, answered questions, and reinforced something important: real access to high-quality equipment is possible — and absolutely worth the application.

These resources and connections help Alliance members and school partners reduce costs, making access and play easier for youth across the city.

When we learn together, we grow together — and when we grow together, our young athletes benefit the most. ⚽🏀🏈⚾🎾🏐🏉🥎🏒🥊🥅💙 - with Everyone's A Player, Beyond Soccer & so many more!
