Nice turn-out tonight for the 5th Annual Kansas Grass Track Madison Championships . . . of the World! out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome. The track was "heavy" from all of the recent storms so the Track Record of 44 laps for the 30-minute race was safe. After Bill Anderson conducted the Track Certification Clinic for one first-timer, Coach Pat split up the 10 racers into five two-rider teams and it was race time! Here are the results from tonight's 5th Annual Kansas Grass Track Madison Championships . . . of the World! --

2nd -- JD Finch & Jeremy Richards, 35 laps
3rd -- Anthony Hornung & Pat Schlager, 34 laps
4th -- Jared Gab & Oscar Gab, 34 laps
5th -- Bill Anderson & Jacob Schneller, 31 laps

Join us next Tuesday for the first of six races in the Coach Pat Tuesday Night Omnium Training Race Series -- the Flying Lap -- followed by the (non-omnium) Scratch Race.

~6:45 PM -- Track Certification Clinic (FREE) required of all first-timers regardless of experience
~8:00 PM -- Omnium Flying Lap followed by the (non-omnium) Scratch Race (FREE)

Nice Keirin Night tonight out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome. We had enough racers for two Heats in Round 1, a Repechage Round, and the Medals Round. Coach Pat also enlightened all about the history of Japanese Keirin and its traditions. Here are the results of tonight's Keirin --

Does anyone think that Coach Pat/Lawrence Grass Velodrome should apply for this? 2,500 bucks! If anyone can bologna his way through USA Cycling's corporate red tape it's Coach Pat. "Let us synergize our paradigm and empower our youth participants in order to maximize the inherent potential of their maximal contribution to the shared vision of the conglomeration."

New grant program helps velodrome, clubs, and coaches introduce junior athletes to track cycling.

6:30-7:40 PM -- Open Track (FREE)
~8:00 PM -- Training Race(s) of the Week -- Keirin (FREE). A lovely blend of traditional Japanese Keirin and modern UCI/USAC Keirin paced by none other than our very own Coach Pat!

Remember that we have ~10 FREE Loner Grass Track Bikes on a first come basis, just DM us and we will fix you up.

Word on the street is that the velodrome has not been mowed yet so we are cancelling tonight's event. Hopefully we'll have it mowed for next Tuesday.

Only one week to go until the 2026 Kansas Track Cycling Season kicks off with Opening Day at the 'Drome! on 26 May. The long-term forecast shows a chance of rain, but we may safely race "rain or shine" out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome (just not with thunderstorms in the area 🌩️). So come on out and join in (or just spectate, naw, you're gonna want to join in) on the best-est form of cycling -- track cycling! And don't forget that we have a fleet of (~10) FREE Loner Grass Track Bikes available on a first come basis, so no excuse.

Time to dust off/build up those grass track bikes for the upcoming 2026 Kansas Track Cycling Season out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome! Just like all track bikes -- single-speed, fixed-gear, lock ring in place, no mechanical brakes, bolt-on axles only (no quick release skewers), drop bars for mass-start races, no roadie master links that can be opened with one's fingers, any data-collecting device must be mounted under the saddle or stored in one's jersey pocket, no water bottles on the track, no water bottle cages, no saddle bags, no bells, no whistles, no tassels. And remember, we have a fleet of (~10) FREE Loner Grass Track Bikes on a fist come basis. Just DM us with your frame size and we will hook you up.

As promised, here is the schedule for the 2026 Kansas Track Cycling Season out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome! We kick things off on 26 May for Opening Night at the 'Drome! As usual, we'll have nine Velodrome Tuesdays* with all of your favorite Training Race(s) of the Week -- Keirin Night at the 'Drome!, the 30-Minute Madison, Team Sprints, and the Kansas Krawl! -- as well as the old-school six-race Coach Pat's Tuesday Night Omnium Training Race Series! But we are now finished yet . . . still to come is "Championship Sunday" (yeah, still working the name) on 26 July follow by the Legendary After-Party! So dust off those grass track bikes and plan to join us each Tuesday evening this summer for some fixie-fun out at the 'Drome!

While Coach Pat is still in his Off-Season Training Phase, soon he will be segueing (how many times do you get to use that word correctly?) into his Pre-Season Training Phase on 01 April in preparation for his first race-day of 2026 -- Opening Day at the Penrose Park Velodrome in STL on 07 May. On 02 April (Coach Pat avoids posting on April Fools Day for the obvious reason) he will post the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome's 2026 Race Schedule, so stay tuned.
