For five years, one of the most frequently requested fishing lures at our shop has been the single-hook Rooster Tail.

Rooster Tails are a proven, effective spinning lure—but they’re almost always sold with a treble hook. Single-hook versions are made, but they can be surprisingly hard to find, and none of our distributors ever seemed to have them in stock.

So this year, we went straight to Yakima Bait Company and bought them ourselves. And we bought a lot. 🎣

We now have single-hook Rooster Tails in a range of sizes and colors.

Why the single hook?
• Easier to release fish
• Less prone to catching brush and getting tangled in nets
• Required under some trout fishing regulations

And yes—even fly fishermen sometimes pull out a spinning rod. 😉 When they do, a single-hook Rooster Tail is hard to beat.

The excitement was flowing long before the first paddle hit the water. 🌊🚣

We had a great time at the MR340 registration at Kaw Point on Monday, meeting racers, ground crews, volunteers, and friends as everyone prepared for the journey ahead.

The race is officially underway, and the first finishers have already crossed the line! We're proud to support this incredible event and cheer on every paddler taking on 340 miles of grit, determination, and adventure.

If you're racing this year, we're rooting for you! 💙

Hi! 👋
Welcome to Great Blue Heron Outdoors — here’s who we are!

🎣We’re an outdoor shop built around time on the water and outside. Fly fishing is at the core, along with finesse fishing tackle to match local conditions. We also carry a full lineup of canoes and paddling gear along with kayaks and other essentials for getting out on the water. Beyond that, you’ll find everyday outdoor gear for birding, camping, dogs, and more.
Our shop is rounded out with apparel and footwear made for real use, plus books, small goods, and the practical extras you pick up on your way out.
☕️We’re also a café. We serve Messenger Coffee — whether you’re starting your morning or stopping in to decompress after a long day. Cocktails are available if you’re staying a bit longer!
🫂Community is a big part of what we do here at GBHO. We host classes, events, and create space for people to connect around shared interests — whether you’re learning something new or just getting involved. It’s as much about the people as it is the gear. Keep up to date with events/classes through our socials and website!
