So after seeing five turkey, two bald eagles, a few doe and one really chubby fox squirrel, I kinda figured with the day drawing to an end, that I’d call it a win without seeing any bucks. I’ve always made it a point to use my range finder to get an idea of my shooting lanes and limits. It kinda helps pass the time. Directly in front of me were two big oaks. One at thirty and one at twenty. The creek was directly behind the thirty oak , so I had those two trees as reference points. About six fifteen I watched a small six point chasing a doe and they were headed my way. I was just happy to see deer. The doe ran off but the six point stayed within twenty yards directly in front of me. I was having fun just looking at him in my scope doing practice shots when suddenly a really deep grunt sounded through the woods. The bull of the woods had shown up. I scoped his rack, yep monster, settled on a broadside double lung at thirty yards and touched off. I heard the deep thrum sound that a chest cavity shot gives off. I gave him an hour and then went looking. Slowly I followed a blood trail and there he was piled up about sixty yards from where he was shot. (Ten Point S400 Viper with Mega Meat 100gr mechanical broadheads) It’s been digitally tagged and logged online with KDWP. The green score is 192 and 1/8. (my special thanks to Dylan and Kelsey Smelser who came to my rescue to help get that buck out of the woods. We had to drag him out of the woods, going uphill almost the whole way. The buck, after being field dressed in the woods, was weighed at 261 lbs. I could not have done this without you.)
