Did you know... The average successful hunter in South Carolina takes 1.8 deer per season and less than 10% of all South Carolina deer hunters take more than 1 doe per season.

Let's change that! This year, hunters will notice an extra doe tag in their base set of tags. SCDNR encourages the harvesting of does to help balance the herd, creating better habitat and better hunting opportunities for the future.

What are the benefits of harvesting an additional doe? We're glad you asked!

➡️ Balanced herds mean less pressure on food sources and better habitat for all wildlife
➡️ Balancing buck-to-doe ratios lead to stronger rut activity and improved buck quality

Freezer already full? Consider donating your doe to Hunters for the Hungry, local food banks, or a permitted processor who participates in the Deer Processors Fee Recovery Program.

Early in the season, adult does are much easier to identify. Don't wait until late in the season to use those doe tags!

Using extra tags can also help farmers by reducing depredation on agricultural crops in many areas of our state.
