Learn How to Fly Fish - For FREE
Have you always wanted to learn to fly fish but didn’t know where to start? Living in Big Sky Country provides numerous opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors and explore all that fly fishing in Montana has to offer! Fly Fishing 101 provides all of the necessary information to get you started in the sport of Fly Fishing. The 4 class sessions will cover the basic information needed to catch trout in our numerous lakes, streams, and rivers. We will cover different topics each night, and the different class sessions build on one another. Fly fishing is a sport in which the whole family can participate. All ages are welcome to attend the class, but those under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. This class is sponsored by The Rock Church in Laurel in conjunction with Magic City Fly Fishers (a Montana Trout Unlimited Chapter). The class is free, but registration is required. Space is limited so sign up today!
In the four consecutive classes, we will cover everything you will need to be self-sufficient on the water including:
• Montana rules and regulations concerning fly fishing
• Fly casting techniques
• Essential knots for Fly Fishing
• How to choose your gear and tackle
• Stream entomology (the science of insects)
• Proper fly selection for different waters and seasons
• How to read water and currents
• Trout behavior and seasonal patterns
• Wading safety and river etiquette
• How to catch, land, and safely release fish
All of the necessary gear needed to participate in this class is provided.
