Your hair can grow differently than it did 10 years ago. You’re not imagining it. 👀

Hair that was once straight may develop waves. Familiar curls may loosen. Strands may start feeling finer, drier, or coarser.

Your genetics help shape your natural texture, but hormones, aging, and certain medical treatments can influence how your hair grows and feels over time. 🔬

And a change in texture doesn’t always mean a change in curl. Thickness, dryness, and damage can affect what you’re noticing, too.

Start by comparing your new growth with your older lengths. Notice when the change began, and adjust your routine to the hair you have today.

If the change is sudden or comes with unusual shedding or scalp symptoms, check with a dermatologist.

👇 How has YOUR hair changed: curlier, straighter, finer, or coarser?

Save this for your next hair conversation, and follow US Trichology Institute for the science behind your hair and scalp.

20+ years in the hair industry… and still finding new ways to grow. 🎓🔬

Tamara and Somone came to USTI Clinicals with decades of experience as beauty professionals, but their journey into trichology opened the door to an entirely new level of knowledge, confidence, and direction.

💬 “The program was amazing.”
💬 “It helped me clear up a lot of things.”
💬 “It gave me a much better sense of direction.”

That’s what continuing your education can do.

Trichology gives experienced hair professionals the opportunity to go beyond the hair and develop a deeper understanding of the scalp, hair loss, and the concerns clients are already bringing into the salon.

And for Tamara and Somone, this is just the beginning. 🧬✨

More hair in your brush doesn’t automatically mean you’re going bald. 🔍

Shedding, thinning, and balding describe different changes, and they can overlap.

💧 SHEDDING: Hair being released from the follicle. Some is normal; a noticeable increase deserves attention.

🔎 THINNING: Less visible fullness from fewer hairs, finer strands, or both.

🧬 BALDING: An everyday term for visible loss of coverage, often associated with pattern hair loss.

These are not three inevitable stages. Excess shedding can cause thinning, and shedding can happen alongside pattern hair loss.

Understanding the difference starts with identifying the cause. If you notice persistent changes, sudden patches, pain, or burning, seek a dermatologist’s assessment.

Save this guide and share it with someone who’s been worried about their hair. Follow US Trichology Institute for more hair and scalp science.

That little scalp bump could be a hair growing in the wrong direction. 🔍

An ingrown hair occurs when a strand grows back into the skin, triggering irritation and a raised bump.

Salicylic acid helps loosen dead skin buildup through exfoliation. It doesn’t dissolve the hair or instantly “bubble out” an ingrown like the animation suggests.

Avoid picking or digging at the bump. Persistent, painful, or draining bumps deserve a dermatologist’s assessment.

Save this for your scalp care education and follow US Trichology Institute for more science behind the strand. 💙
