Treat every ball that comes at you as if you’re playing a Simple Game of Catch. What does that mean?

1. GO catch it
2. If you meet it out in front of your eyes you will catch it.
3. If you go right at it, you will naturally catch it out front.

One key focus point about the drop step is to get your pre pitch timing correct to make it real… land after the ball hits the net or if somebody is throwing/hitting them. When you land after it is hit, you will know exactly where to meet it without any hesitation. Always attack the ball at an angle. That means the anticipation and reading the pitch & swing you will be leaning/running to where the ball will be going.

Feet split - Direct angle - One motion - Glove presented - Timing & Speed of ball/runner/situation dictates the footwork for the throw. Mentally lock in on these goals during this drill.

Pre Pitch timing is crucial when it comes to defense..

Land after you see the ball hit so you know exactly where to meet the ball.

If you land too early or before the ball is hit you will have a hard time being direct to the ball.
