BFA University of Michigan, class of 2013
I have always been passionate about sports. In high school I was captain of my Varsity Cross Country & Lacrosse team but, once I began to pursue my undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor I put sports aside and focused on my art. Every summer I came home from school I would spend countless hours at Equi
nox training to compensate for the lack of exercise I did not partake in during the school year. It was not until my senior year at Michigan when I started craving fitness and I decided to venture out of the norm for myself and try Bikram Yoga. I could not even bend over and touch my toes with my legs straight. In High School I was always the athlete who skipped out on stretching, I did not realize how important and relevant stretching was for my performance at that time (which is probably why I was always pulling muscles and getting injured). I became obsessed with Bikram Yoga, it was such a challenge for me and I wanted to conquer it. A few months after I graduated from school I began working at lululemon athletica, White Plains. At this time I was still practicing Bikram at a local studio regularly, until one evening a group of my lululemon co-workers convinced me to come to "CrossFit" with them. I don't mean to be so dramatic but, that was a game-changer for me. Within weeks I found myself attending classes at CrossFit Westchester, White Plains almost every day. I loved the competition, the camaraderie, the challenge. I began to notice how flexibility played an important role in many of the movements and lifts we did in class and how having optimal range of motion in your joints was even an advantage. I became very passionate about this idea of utlizing yoga to better my performance in CrossFit and wanted to share this with everyone else. I enrolled in Ohra Yoga School and graduated as a 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher, Summer 2015 then became a CrossFit Level-1 Trainer Fall 2015. I am currently pursuing my passion teaching yoga for various CrossFit boxes, sports teams and individual athletes throughout Westchester, New York.
