The term, "Survival Swim" can be so intimidating. We've all seen the videos of kids being thrown in the pool with instructors who stand pool side with parents just waiting for the outcome. But that's not the reality for all of us.

You can teach a child to float without aggressively tossing them in.

You can transform a crying child into a confident child (WITH TIME).

You can soothe and console a child without bending your expectations of them in the water.

If you're afraid of what survival swim could look like... find an instructor who values connection with your child. Not just the skills.

The hardest part for parents isn’t the skill.
It’s sitting in the middle and not knowing which one it is.

The words we use after a lesson matter more than we realize.

Children build identity through repetition.
Through tone.
Through the way we narrate their hard moments.

We don’t deny that something stretched them.

We just don’t build their story around fear.

And before I could even finish the sentence… he was flying across the pool like a little superhero.

Sometimes kids don’t need a new ability.
They just need someone to believe it’s already in them.

One “yes, you can” can turn into super speed real quick. 💙

Winter break doesn’t mean survival skills have to fade!

Try these three things at home to keep your little ones prepared all year long.

1. Always pour water over their head while bathing or showering.

2. Show your kids videos of them swimming! Help their brain remember, “I know how to do this”.

3. Don’t replace survival swim with random swim instruction during time off. If your instructor is taking time off this winter it’s best to take a break with them OR find another instructor with the same qualifications. Mixing methods WILL confuse kids!
