Days 2 & 3 of Changing It Up a Bit...
Because we were in search of some new rugs for our coach, we went to a really little town called Oatman, at the recommendation of some friends. Oatman is located just 25 miles southeast of Bullhead City and is a VERY unique village of gift and antique stores, as well as several saloons and restaurants. Wild burros wander the street and there are shootouts on the street on the weekends. On the way into town, scraggley bushes were decorated here and there with Christmas decorations.
Interesting, huh? Not sure of the history of this quirky tradition. Just before we reached the town, there was the annual bed race...glad we missed that one! The town was very run down and the roads were rough. We quickly found what we were looking for, purchased them and headed for the truck...stopping to take a few pics and get safely into the truck before the burros got too curious about Emjai. Today, we dressed for the wind...hair tucked up in a baseball cap...(just mine, Jeff doesn't need one!) and headed into Laughlin...just across the bridge from Bullhead City. It is one of Nevada's premier gambling centers, but we went for the River Walk next to the Colorado River. Quite beautiful! Just a note about the weather here...it is super windy. When we went to bed the last two nights, it sounded like the grouse (native little goofy looking bird that has this little feather sticking up over it's head and runs around all over the place here)...well, like they were running over the top of our RV. Jeff went to sleep easily, but I was annoyed with the noise and decided to investigate and think about it. Just short of getting dressed, going outside and climbing the ladder to see what was going on up there, I recalled someone telling us a few months back about the awnings that we had installed over our slide-outs. The wind was so strong that it was causing them to slap around so crazily that they sounded like critters. When Jeff woke up in the morning, I told him what it was and told him that the man had suggested that we put either a slightly inflated beach ball between the awning and roof of the slide or some of the floating noodles that are used in the pool. He was dressed quickly (even though I never asked him to) and went out there and solved the problem! He's my hero!
