The fire service has lost a legend.

In the late seventies, Dr. Paul O Davis established quantitative testing benchmarks for firefighters that measured peak performance during fireground activities. His groundbreaking work morphed into his creation of the sporting phenomenon known as the Firefighter Combat Challenge. For over 30 years, thousands of firefighters from across the world have participated in the “Toughest Two Minutes in Sports”. The Challenge is not only a “sport” but a lifestyle.

The core concept of the fireground evolutions within the Challenge have been accepted into the training programs for hundreds of departments. For almost twenty years I have been racing in the Challenge. The firefighter athlete lifestyle has made me a better firefighter and man. I can never give back enough of what the Challenge has given me.

Rest in peace Dr. Davis. Your impact on the fire service will resonate for generations to come.

The 23’ Southwest Regional is a wrap. It was an exciting 3 days of racing in the Las Vegas sunshine. My final run fell a little short of my goal but I can definitely build off of it and improve.

I also had the opportunity to work the event as a race official which was a lot of fun! I always knew the Challenge staff works hard to put on a quality show but now after seeing all the work behind the scenes I am even more impressed by the production of this great sport.

I’m already looking forward to the next one. GO PFD!

Here is our tentative run order for Thursday's Wildcard Qualifying Round in the Individual Category at the 2023 Paul Davis Restoration Southwest Firefighter Challenge Championship event at The Strat in Las Vegas, Nevada. These times are 'estimated' and are subject to change due to delays during the day. Our LIVE Leaderboard will also be running tomorrow, and we will post the link in the morning. First time doing coursework on air in almost 4 years! Pretty brutal but have to start somewhere. This was my 2nd full run at about 75%. Less than a month until the Firefighter Challenge Southwest Regional in Las Vegas. GO PFD!

We're often asked, " what is the LION's Den?" This prestigious honor recognizes the outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves on the course by meeting the criteria as outlined below.

• Sub 100 Male (Defined: A male competitor whose regional, national or world championship time is less than or equal to 100 seconds [≤1:40].)

• Sub 3:00 Female (Defined: A female competitor whose regional, national or world championship time is less than or equal to 3:00)

• Sub 2:00 Over 40 Male (Defined: An over 40 competitor whose regional, national or world championship time is less than or equal to 2:00.)

• Sub 3:30 Over 40 Female (Defined: An over 40 female competitor whose regional, national or world championship time is less than or equal to 3:30.)

• Sub 2:30 Over 50 Male (Defined: An over 50 competitor whose regional, national or world championship time is less than or equal to 2:30.)

• Sub 5:00 Over 50 Female (Defined: An over 50 female competitor whose regional, national or world championship time is less than or equal to 5:00)
