WHO IS BEHIND “COUNTRY MAIL ONLINE”?

The public, particularly the people of Pangasinan, is encouraged to exercise greater vigilance when reading and sharing information published by the page Country Mail Online.

The page currently presents itself on Facebook as an independent media entity and has accumulated more than 300,000 followers. However, readers should not judge the credibility of a news source based on follower count alone.

We are calling for TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

Who currently owns and operates Country Mail Online?

Who are its editors and administrators?

Who takes editorial responsibility for the stories and allegations it publishes?

What is its process for verifying information before publication?

Concerns have been raised regarding allegedly false, misleading, fabricated, or insufficiently verified information appearing on the platform. These concerns should be examined carefully and supported by evidence rather than simply accepted or repeated.

We therefore encourage the people of Pangasinan:

VERIFY BEFORE YOU SHARE.

Check controversial claims against official government records, statements from the people involved, and established independent news organizations.

DO NOT ALLOW SOCIAL MEDIA TO BECOME A WEAPON FOR DISINFORMATION.

A news organization asking public officials and private individuals to be accountable should likewise be prepared to demonstrate who is responsible for its reporting and how its information is verified.

PALACE OPEN TO POSSIBLE FACEBOOK BAN AMID ONLINE SAFETY CONCERNS

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is open to considering the possibility of banning Facebook in the Philippines amid growing concerns over harmful online content, school violence, and accountability among social media platforms.

Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said restrictions on online platforms are “not a remote possibility” should circumstances warrant stronger government action to protect the public, particularly young people, from potentially harmful content.

The statement comes as the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) considers recommending a possible Facebook ban over concerns regarding content circulating on the platform and the responsibility of social media companies to address online risks.

However, no final decision or official ban has been announced. Any potential restriction would require further evaluation, including its legal implications, impact on freedom of expression, and effects on millions of Filipinos who rely on Facebook for communication, business, news, and other services.

The issue is expected to generate significant public discussion as government agencies weigh online safety and platform accountability against access to information and digital communication.

FLM TV Network 26.5 will continue to monitor developments regarding the government’s position and any official action involving Facebook in the Philippines.

Charly Suarez Scores Stunning First-Round Knockout, Captures WBO International Super Featherweight Title

SAN BERNARDINO, California — Filipino boxing standout Charly Suarez delivered a spectacular performance by knocking out Mexican veteran Manuel Avila in the opening round to capture the World Boxing Organization (WBO) International Super Featherweight Championship at the National Orange Show Event Center on Sunday, July 19 (Manila time).

Representing Davao del Norte, Suarez wasted no time asserting his dominance. He connected with a series of powerful right hands before unleashing a decisive combination, capped by a crushing left hook to Avila’s temple that sent the Mexican fighter crashing to the canvas.

Although Avila attempted to beat the count, he was unable to regain his footing, prompting the referee to stop the contest with just 29 seconds remaining in the first round, officially awarding Suarez the knockout victory.

The impressive win improved Suarez’s unbeaten professional record to 19 wins with no losses and, more importantly, allowed him to retain his status as the mandatory challenger for a highly anticipated rematch against unified WBO and IBF Super Featherweight World Champion Emanuel Navarrete.

Sunday’s bout marked Suarez’s first appearance in the ring since his controversial no contest against Navarrete in May 2025. During that championship fight, Suarez appeared to be gaining momentum before the contest was halted after Navarrete suffered a cut. The referee ruled that the injury resulted from an accidental head clash rather than a punch from Suarez, leading to the fight being declared a no contest—a decision widely debated among boxing fans and analysts.

Following the bout, the WBO ordered an immediate rematch. However, Navarrete opted to pursue a unification fight against Eduardo Nuñez instead, successfully capturing the IBF Super Featherweight Championship.

Despite spending more than a year without an official fight, Suarez remained active in training while awaiting his opportunity. The bout against Avila served as an important tune-up contest ahead of what is expected to be a blockbuster rematch with Navarrete.

With his explosive first-round knockout victory, Suarez has once again demonstrated that he remains one of the Philippines’ brightest boxing stars and is ready to challenge for a world championship once more

Construction of the Clark International Airport Station under the North–South Commuter Railway (NSCR) is reportedly nearing completion, marking a major step toward faster and more efficient travel between Metro Manila and Central Luzon.

Delegates from the Asia and the Pacific Transport Forum recently visited the ongoing construction site together with officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The visit forms part of activities supporting the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035 initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and modern transportation systems across the region.

The Clark International Airport Station is one of the key components of the massive 147-kilometer NSCR project, which will connect New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac to Calamba. Once operational, the railway system is expected to significantly reduce travel time and provide daily service to more than 800,000 passengers.

Transportation officials said the NSCR project is designed to modernize the country’s public transportation network, improve regional connectivity, and help ease traffic congestion in major urban centers.

The government is targeting the completion of the entire railway project by 2032.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Luzon revealed that it had previously issued a work stoppage order against the contractor of the now-collapsed building in Pampanga due to multiple safety violations.

According to DOLE-Central Luzon, the order was served in September 2025 after inspectors reportedly discovered several occupational safety and health deficiencies at the construction site. The violations allegedly involved unsafe working conditions and failure to comply with mandated construction safety standards.

The disclosure came following the recent structural collapse that triggered rescue and retrieval operations, raising serious concerns regarding compliance with engineering and labor safety regulations.

Authorities are now conducting a full investigation into the incident to determine possible negligence and accountability on the part of the contractor and other responsible parties.

Labor officials emphasized that work stoppage orders are issued to prevent accidents and protect workers whenever serious safety risks are identified at construction sites.

The collapse has intensified public calls for stricter enforcement of occupational safety standards and more rigorous inspections of infrastructure and private construction projects nationwide.

Meanwhile, rescue teams and local authorities continue clearing operations in the affected area as officials assess the full extent of the damage and verify reports of possible casualties and injuries.

Traffic authorities and engineering personnel continue to monitor the structural condition of the EDSA-Tramo Flyover after emergency reinforcement measures were implemented following concerns over a loose concrete slab along the structure.

A nonoperational backhoe was positioned beneath the flyover to support and stabilize a detached concrete portion on the side of the southbound lane. The emergency action was carried out on the evening of May 22 to prevent possible hazards to motorists and commuters passing through the busy thoroughfare.

Due to safety concerns, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) temporarily closed the southbound lane of the flyover while authorities conducted inspections and assessed the integrity of the structure.

Officials said the precautionary closure was necessary to ensure public safety amid fears that the damaged concrete slab could pose risks to passing vehicles and pedestrians.

Motorists traveling along EDSA and nearby routes experienced heavy traffic congestion following the partial closure, with authorities advising commuters to seek alternative routes while repair and evaluation operations continue.

Engineering teams are expected to conduct further structural assessments to determine the extent of the damage and identify long-term rehabilitation measures for the aging flyover infrastructure.

The EDSA-Tramo Flyover is considered one of Metro Manila’s major traffic corridors, linking key areas of Pasay City and serving thousands of motorists daily.

Photos documenting the emergency reinforcement operation were taken by photojournalist J. Gerard Seguia.
