This is her story in her words…..
For the past few months I have been working on a really big project .film
Born and raised in the U.S. to an immigrant mother from Costa Rica and a father from the U.S., I had always felt disconnected from my Latina roots. This past year I lived in Colombia and that experience allowed me embrace more of my own identity. I realized that so much of this was due to the amazing Colombian climbing community that I found myself immersed in.
Just as I was coming back to the U.S., I was accepted into the SCARPA Athlete Mentorship Program which aims to diversify the outdoors. Throughout the year, we have to work on a project. This motivated me to think big. This past summer, I was at the Ten Sleep Climbing Festival and one of the presentations was from . She showed the last section of Pretty Strong of in Mexico and I absolutely loved it and became inspired to create my own film.
Since August, , , and I have been working super hard to bring Guerreras to life. This film will use climbing as a social tool. It will challenge the audience to consider how their identities intersect with their own climbing experiences. It will highlight the stories of an underrepresented group-Latina climbers, specifically womxn climbers in Colombia-while also connecting climbing communities from around the world. The goal is to build international climbing solidarity and create more globally aware citizens.
I am so excited to share our newest poster (picture 1) for the film created by Colombian climber and graphic designer . I absolutely love the work she has done. Every woman in this poster is either Colombian or lives in Colombia. Most of these amazing photographers are Colombian and live there, so give their work a look as well!
We are also so grateful to who have made our logo and other poster.
iVamos con todo! iViva Colombia!
