NICHOLAS IS COMPETING right now! He's swimming to achieve personal goals, to qualify for next year's National Senior Games, and to continue enjoying this crazy-fun active life open to everyone -- no matter "how good" you are. GOOD LUCK, NICHOLAS, and ALL OUR SWIMMERS!
Last summer, swimmer Nicholas Delgado earned four medals at his first National Senior Games — a feat he could hardly have imagined just a few years earlier.
As a passionate high school math teacher and coach, Nicholas spent decades focused on helping others succeed. During 11 years of coaching swimming and water polo, he led his teams to nine league championships. But while his students and athletes were thriving in the pool, Nicholas was struggling to prioritize his own health.
A serious car accident and the following long road to recovery led Nicholas to a reset. “I put on lots of weight when I was coaching. I did not spend time for myself to get healthier,” shares Nicholas. “After I was done coaching in 2024, I told myself, ‘I have to do something for me, or else I am going to die.’ That's why I went back to master’s swimming.”
Once he got back in the pool, Nicholas began seeing improvements in his times and decided to enter a two-day competition in Nevada (Nevada's Silver State Games). Little did he know that competition would eventually lead him to the National Senior Games.
There, Nicholas made new friends among fellow athletes and volunteers and officially caught the Senior Games bug. Now he's already on the and looking forward to what's next!
