Form matters!

AND!

You are learning. The technique will come along.

Just. Keep. Going.

Form matters

And people should be encouraged to perform exercises in a way that will maximize results while decreasing risk of injury

However, for many people, it's difficult enough to make the conscious decision to start exercising regularly

It might not be something that they enjoy or feel confident about

It might feel awkward or scary, especially when learning new movements or exercises they've never tried

So, as fitness professionals, it's important to understand the person in front of you as well as when to give more or less feedback, cueing, or coaching

Over-coaching and correcting can not only be frustrating but also discouraging for the client, and in some cases can turn them off to the idea of continuing to exercise if they feel like it is too difficult or overly technical

The longer that I work with clients/patients of my own, the more Iโ€™ve learned that often, less is more

Giving less feedback, less cues, etc while allowing the person to โ€œfeel outโ€ the movement or exercise, and then only providing simple tips/adjustments when necessary can go a long way in building confidence, improving motor learning, and keeping people coming back for more!

Of course, as always, thereโ€™s nuance to this:

Some people really enjoy more cueing/feedback/coaching and thrive off of it (often people who have been training for a long time and want more fine tuning)

But again, this comes back to experience and emotional intelligenceโ€ฆunderstanding the person and what they actually NEED

At the end of the day, we want more people exercising and living healthier and more fulfilling lives!

And if that means making it easier for people to start and stick to exercise, even if their form isnโ€™t โ€œperfectโ€, Iโ€™m all for it!

If youโ€™re someone who has been wanting to start exercising more regularly, but either you donโ€™t know where to start or youโ€™re nervous that you might hurt yourself or make an existing pain/injury worse, you can apply to ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต ๐—บ๐—ฒ ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜† ๐Ÿญ-๐—ผ๐—ป-๐Ÿญ ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ by commenting the word โ€œ๐—”๐—ฃ๐—ฃ๐—Ÿ๐—ฌโ€ or by using the l*nk at the top of my page .caleb.burgess

Sometimes LESS is MORE...

Some of you (especially those of you who train hard regularly), don't need MORE exercises to ADD to your already high VOLUME or high INTENSITY workout regimen

Sometimes you just need to take a closer look at your training routine and recovery and adjust (usually LESS volume/frequency/duration and/or LESS intensity in your workouts and better quality/quantity of sleep, nutrition etc) to allow yourself to HEAL and/or to stop aggravating/provoking your painful or injured areas!

This doesn't mean that you can't build back up again later, but if you keep pounding yourself day in and day out with your workouts, no additional or special "rehab exercises" are going to fix the issue

In some cases this is more obvious, while in other cases it's more subtle

๐ŸŽฏ Here are some things to look out for that might clue you in to if you need to adjust your training regimen or recovery:

- You feel more pain during or after your workouts
- You feel less pain when you unexpectedly took more days off than normal or when you have a longer or less broken up sleep
- Eating more whole food sources, more calories, and/or more protein helps you feel more energized and/or helps decrease pain/achiness
- An increase in your resting heart rate or blood pressure, especially when you first wake up
- Persistent fatigue
- A persistent plateau (several weeks) or decline in workout performance/progress

Now, SOME of you, on the other side of the spectrum, don't do nearly ENOUGH!

For you, it's exactly the opposite...stop looking for the perfect exercises and JUST START MOVING AND EXERCISING MORE FREQUENTLY

Many times just being more active is all that you need!

The key is to find the right balance...where you are active, moving often, and eating/sleeping as well as you can, while also being mindful that you aren't OVERDOING it with exercise/activity

It's not always easy to find this balance, which is where quality coaching or an assessment from a professional can be invaluable

So if you need help, let me know (send me a DM or use the link on my page)!

I work with people all around the world to design programs that will build you up without tearing you down ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ
