a chartered non-profit organization, had its humble beginnings as part of Laredo's Washington Birthday Celebration on February 21, 1932. The first five track meets were known as the International Frontier Olympics, which were headed by a chairman of the Olympics Committee, one of many groups within the Washington's Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA). Student athletes representing universities
, colleges and high schools from throughout Texas and Mexico attended the track and field meet making it an international event. As a result of it's growth and stature, the track meet sparated from the WBCA and organizers created its own Board of Directors, slate of officers and established a charter. This new collaboration was named Border Olympics, Inc. In 1947, the inaugural meet was scheduled for the first weekend in March and has been held on the same weekend ever since. The initial two track meets were held on the night of February 21, in honor of George Washington's birthday. The subsequent three track meets were scheduled for March 2 in celebration of Texas Independence Day. Later a college golf tournament (1952), a college tennis tournament (1976) and a high school baseball tournament (1987) were added. In 1989, the Girl's High School Track and Field Division was added to the event. The High School Golf Division returned in 1991 with an abundance of teams and great success. The girl's Softball Division was introduced at the 2002 Border Olympics. In 2004, the Border Olympics Soccer Tournament debuted with boys and girls division and expanded in 2005. Over the last five years a girls and boys basketball tournament as well as collegiate volleyball tournament has been added with great success. As a result, Border Olympics is on the rise.
