The True Purpose of Little League:

Character Over Championships
Over my years serving our district, one truth stands out: the greatest danger in Little League is forgetting who the game is actually for.

Our fields were not built for adult egos or grown-up rivalries. They were built for our children to learn, build friendships, and grow into people of character.

When we value a trophy over a child’s smile, or an argument over a player’s peace of mind, we lose our way. Kids don't play for rules and standings—they play for the love of the game. They trust their coaches, their parents, and the umpires.

Umpires do more than call balls and strikes; they keep our children safe and maintain fairness. Teaching players to respect the umpire teaches them respect for life.

When disputes require administrative review, we must lead with transparency and integrity. Games should be decided on the field, not at a board table. Our actions must always reflect the values we teach.

Decades from now, kids won't remember the score of a game—but they will remember how we made them feel and the example we set.

Let’s keep the focus where it belongs: on the kids.

It’s never easy when the final out is called, but this loss doesn't change a single thing about what this team achieved. You fought for every pitch, gave every ounce of sweat, and carried the name on the front of your jerseys with pure dignity and grace.

To our players and coaches: thank you for taking us on this unforgettable ride. You didn't just play baseball—you brought a whole city together, 1,248 miles away, and put Laredo on the world map.

You didn’t just play on a world stage—you showed every young ballplayer back home in Laredo what grit, heart, and dedication look like. Falling short today hurts, but the path you blazed and the pride you brought to our community will last far beyond this season.
