Something I ran into last night that I thought was pretty interesting and definitely had me asking WHY?
I wanted to share what my thought is and see if you all may agree?
I don’t want too far into it as the YouTube video will be posting in the next couple weeks.
I had two coyotes howl and come into MFK Game Calls Lonely Lil B howl out of the Foxpro Inc. X360, and I was able to put both of them down. At first, I just figured it was a big Male and big Female……
However, after getting my hands on them, that wasn’t the case.
Both were big, older males. Their teeth were heavily worn, and there was no mistaking that these were two mature coyotes.
We normally think about coyotes traveling as a male/female pair or as part of a family group, so seeing two old males running together and responding to a howl really caught my attention.
My best guess is these two were related or longtime members of the same social group and were comfortable sharing the same territory. The fact that they came to a howl also makes me believe this was more of a territorial/social response than anything involving food obviously.
I would love to hear everyone’s opinion and get some opinions on your thoughts and maybe something a lot of us can learn from.
That’s one of the things I love about hunting coyotes! You can hunt them for years and they will still teach you something or leave you scratching your head.
Have any of you ever killed or seen two older mature males traveling together? If so, what time of year was it and what did they respond to?
