Hands down, the biggest performance killer for most backcountry cook systems is wind.

When we designed the Highcountry Cook System, solving that problem was a top priority.

Getting reliable performance in windy conditions isn’t about one feature. It’s the combination of several design elements working together.

• A removable windguard attaches to the bottom of the pot and fully encloses the burner head for maximum protection.

• A higher output stove produces a stronger flame that’s less likely to blow out.

• A wider burner head creates a broader flame that is more stable in windy conditions.

• A recessed burner head with an integrated windshield adds another layer of protection.

• Tight pot to burner spacing limits how much wind can reach the flame.

The result is a cook system built to perform in windy conditions on backcountry hunts.
