Indiana Magic Gold 2034 Futures Guthrie were back in action this past weekend, playing in the 9UB Marucci Softball Classic in Greenwood, Indiana, going 5-0 and coming home CHAMPIONS. This weekend, the girls outhit their opponents 28-11 and outscored them 35-3.
This team is clicking on all cylinders on and off the field. The coaches are challenging them both physically and mentally each week, and it's starting to show. They are scrappy with heart, as we got down early 1-0 to the number 2 seed team, who was also undefeated going into the Championship Game (outscoring their opponents 26-7), and it never rattled these girls one bit! They stayed dialed in on what we came to do, came back the next inning to score 2 runs, then shut them down for 4 straight innings, winning 2-1. We do a lot of reps over and over and over, whether it's defensive drills, base-running drills, scenario reps, or defensive play calls, and it's so awesome to see it come to fruition in games. This past weekend, the girls made so many great plays on both sides of the ball. The baserunning IQ is growing!! We have put it back on them to make their own reads (defensive positioning, pop time, arm strength, catchers' setup, catchers' habits), which allows the girls to play free on the bases, be aggressive, get steals, delayed steals, and which eventually will cause chaos on the other teams. Defensively, we are executing what we put work on every week; we're making our routine outs, whether it's hard ground balls or sky-high fly balls to the outfield. Catchers are growing in confidence, making attempts on back picks, and on attempts to steal 3rd, letting it rip without hesitation, which put the runner in a pickle and led to her getting tagged out. WE EXECUTED OUR FIRST 4-6-3 DOUBLE PLAY!!! Not sure who was more excited, the girls or the coaches😂

As we head out for Nationals in Branson, Missouri, next week, we always look back to where we started the season and where we are now. The growth from our first tournament this spring to now has been so amazing. The mental growth has taken leaps and bounds, both in the game and in the mental prep on game days. Next week will be our last 9U tournament of the season. We are currently 15-4 in 9U, having won 13 of our last 14, let's keep the momentum going, girls, and come back from Nationals with a Championship!!
